  1. I agree there is a divide and conquer element at play, but here you're suggesting that the "state" engineered a split with the EU so the UK could be destroyed economically and thus have it's people vote to give more power back to the "state"? There are significant logic holes in that from my perspective.

@CaaC (John) unfortunately not mate. I only saw the same story you did on our evening News.
  3. I think it's fairly likely the next book drops within a year but I question whether it can really be the second last given how much more complex his plot and how far they are from the end game at this point...
  4. I struggle to see an improvement they could make except to include more episodes. Some of the uneventful "build" moments may be time wasted in some peoples views but most of them served a purpose imo.
  5. I think your being a bit fanciful in your beliefs/assumptions of that person's thought process mate. Leaving Europe is a turn of phrase that is catchier than saying leaving the European union. It's a shorthand version of the same thing. Highly unlikely he's imagining beginning a member of the continent of North America as the alternative. He does have a point though that the majority did vote to leave, but that doesn't mean they voted to leave whatever the cost, and the manner of leaving is obviously impactful to the economic future of the country so could justifiably be put to a vote imo.
  6. What are you hoping for with Jon? I'm fine with Arya killing NK and bran on throne and Jon in exile. But I can't take how shitty of a battle commander he was at Winterfell, the extent of his loyalty to Dany that he still needed Tyrion to convince him even after she burned Kings landing. Those aspects really made him seem like an un worthy tool. It would be great if they reversed the order of the Winterfell and King landing Battles and or made the Light bringer prophecy about him killing Dany.

  8. I don't think there'll be huge hype for this until after it lands if it turns out to be good, or if the next book lands first and people get wind that it differs from the show in a positive way. The final season took the shine off it pretty bad. So rushed that whilst still roughly coherent just didn't hit the notes of believability. It was still a decent ending but not worthy of such a perfect show. The point they venture North to capture a Wight will be forever remembered by me as the fonzy jumped the shark moment for the show.
  9. Just take a second vote. Deal or no Deal. If No Deal gets a majority even the remain camp could only settle down and buckle in for the ride.
  10. That's a really good answer tbh. Nice training but also funny and touched on the the football side nicely at the end
  11. It could leave them more vulnerable against the more competitive sides.
  12. Those Twitter comparison images usually pick statistics and measures that fit with their pre designed hypothesis and making things look closer than they are.
  13. It honestly is our greatest shame. He has wreaked havoc upon the world in so many different ways.
  14. I finished the final season of VEEP with Julia Louis Dreyfus. Amazing comedy show. The most intense and unique insults you'll ever hear on tv.
  15. The world would be such a profoundly different place if Rupert Murdoch had died in Utero...
  16. I assumed this whole proroguing play went off the table once the Parliament had legislated against a no Deal brexit... What's the expected pathway now?
  17. I think that's a great move from Netflix. I was lamenting the other day that there won't be another game of thrones level hysteria show because these days the initial buzz fades out and people binge in their own time... I like the communal water cooler gossip nature of tv that used to exist so it'll be good to see how this goes for the new release shows...
  18. What is the $$ get out clause number for "go fuck yourself"/"leave VVD the fuck alone!" 750m?
  19. Ironically, for a system that is stated as being developed to prevent another war between Germany and whomever else it has just made Germany more powerful as their currency is artificially devalued as they share it with poor countries. If still on the Mark German goods would be more expensive and they're be less of an economic powerhouse. In its very structure the EU divorces monetary policy from fiscal policy which is bad practice and will always make the richer countries richer and the poorer poorer. It should never have moved to become a political union. Can only result in German domination even when they are not trying to. Hence builds resentment to Germany and more likely to lead to war than prevent one. Not an issue now but I think resentment will build. Classic creation of irrational ideologically driven bureaucrats. Aside from original idea of making easier to trade across borders, which could have been achieved with something short of a full currency union, it makes no sense economically or politically. Problem now is that without a deal leaving will be hugely damaging to the British economy, and with other nations flirting with anti EU sentiment there will be little desire to help them avoid some pretty significant pain.
  20. That's a good post. Very true and unfortunate how easy it is to be sucked in and polarised by dislike of the other side. Ultimately that'll often happen from reading a news source with an agenda... They'll find an example of the most extreme outlier of one side of politics and just write a bit of an outrage piece on it.
  21. If the EU still exists in its present form by then. It really has some serious problems, and the effect of the single currency eliminating the ability of various poorer countries to return to prosperity in the manner typical (improving their economic competitiveness by a dropping currency) will continue to foster inequality throughout the EU economies and resentment towards Brussels and Germany from many quarters. The rise of the hard right has a lot more to do with people feeling left behind than is given credit in many quarters and it will continue to be an issue imo. Dismissing right wing positions as purely racially motivated is choosing to live in a fools paradise.
  22. That may be true but a mentality of voting to blow up a system that is perceived to have delivered massive inequality and that has massively failed some sectors is understandable imo.
  23. Fucking hell! Even better than the first one!
