Ferran Torres swap 'agreed'

Manchester City and Barcelona have agreed to swap Ferran Torres for Frenkie de Jong, it is reported.

According to Spanish publication El Nacional, Barcelona cannot afford to meet City's £60m valuation of Torres and so have instead agreed to part ways with de Jong.

It would mean the transfer goes through without any money changing hands, it is added, which would be "pleasing to all parties".

It is all down to whether de Jong himself wants to make the switch to City, the report adds, although the player has seen his long-term future in Spain for a long time now and would reportedly be upset to walk away from the club.

He might be worried about playing time though

I mean realistically if he does reach the levels he was at Ajax under Pep he could replace someone in the midfield or be a backup for Bernardo when the time comes. I can see Pep getting the best out of him honestly.

I told you that days ago :4_joy:  ..it's not 100% though, De Jong likes it where he is but Barca cant afford Torres so...

But why do Man City want another creative midfielder anyway? That's the last place you need to strengthen.

It's more about Barca not having the money for Torres and Pep doing them a favour plus Torres is home sick ..like you say we don't need him, strikers is what we need

Shame because Torres could probably end up being a pretty good centre forward

The cynic in me thinks this sounds like it may be a swap deal to cheat FFP through amortisation if Frenkie DeJong goes off in the other direction. A bit like Arthur & Pjanic, Cancelo & Danilo, Osimhem & the five nobody's etc.

I reckon Real Madrid are going to dominate the league for the next several years (especially if they get both Haaland and Mbappe) but Barca are genuinely building something exciting.

Gavi (17)

Fati (19)

Pedri (19)

Nico Gonzalez (19)

Torres (21)

Puig (22)

Certainly doesnt sound like a swap deal.

Yeah, the de Jong involvement seems to have gone quiet. All of which takes us back to the first question, how the fuck can Barcelona afford this?

Man City 'offered Ferran Torres' for rest of season due to Barcelona financial fears

Barcelona offered Manchester City the chance to keep Ferran Torres for the remainder of the season with the Catalan club concerned they cannot register the player within their budget

:4_joy: what a shambles, why try buy players you can't afford? :what:

It's a political move to retain power by appeasing certain members of the voters.

Ferran’s registration happened with the weirdest of accounting moves. Umtiti was out, the club haven’t wanted him for a while but he has refused every single offer that’s come in. So Barcelona have come to an agreement with Umtiti where he can stay and adding an extra year on his current contract. His wages have been spread throughout the remainder of his contract with a lump sum paid in the final year of his contract.

What a shambles, what a total mess!

But I suppose Barcelona have achieved getting a really good young player, a player they really couldn’t afford.
