The Artful Dodger Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Generous score carr from froch but happy for hulls finest campbell. Quote
6666 Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 It was a bit of a slow fight and Povetkin was doing well but then AJ just decided to end it. Quote
The Artful Dodger Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 2stone heavier and 4 inches taller, in what world is that a fair fight? Povetkin did well but was naive in the last rounds. Joshua needs to be sparked out soon because no way is he a good boxer. Quote
LFCMike Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Was good that. Povetkin put a lot into the first five rounds but round 6 was a clear Joshua round and he took over from there. Not sure why the ref thought Povetkin was fit to continue after the first knockdown, he was all over the place Quote
Danny Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Good fight for AJ, you could see early on he was trying to work out Povetkin and whilst the Russian had some success AJ began to read the punches he was throwing and dodge them pretty easily, throwing some counters back too. Proved his chin isn't made of glass as it made out. Shown the knock out power again. Bizarre to suggest he's not a good boxer. Agree with @LFCMike, Povetkin fell out of the ring, how on earth was he allowed to carry on? Quote

Will joshua ever fight someone his level at his age? Hearn is such a scumbag. Quote

Ona real night Whyte now would give him a proper fight. Edited September 22, 2018 by Panna King Quote

Povetkin started well connecting with Joshua, Joshua began to read how Povetkin was punching with those big hooks and nullified those attempts with a solid defence that kept seeing Povetkin miss. As the fight went on Joshua was in control, started to outbox Povetkin and then finished him. Had he not of got the KO he'd of carried on outboxing him. Joshua is vulnerable to being hit in the early stages of a fight to anyone looking for a KO, but he will work out how they punch even if that means taking a few and then either counter or just make them miss and then dictate to them. He's still young and gaining experience, a phenomenal athlete to achieve what he has considering his boxing history is a lot shorter than others. Anglo view or not it was a deserved win and Joshua's quality was clearly beginning to control the fight. Quote
LFCMike Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 Not that this even matters now but how?! Quote

Subscriber JoshBRFC+ Posted September 25, 2018 Subscriber Posted September 25, 2018 Should be a good one! Hoping for a Smith win. Always been a fan, he's been an underrated talent over the years and i think aswell as hope that he'll get the job done. Tyson Fury and Frank Warren's hatred of AJ/Eddie Hearn and Matchroom is embarrassing. Quote
LFCMike Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 The body shot then the uppercut from Smith, quality Quote
Danny Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 Was it a good fight? Not seen a lot of Smith tbh, watched his first fight of the tournament and it was a bit meh, good from him to knock Groves out though. Where does Groves go from here? Quote
The Artful Dodger Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 Boss from Callum Smith, been a long time in the making. Respect to Groves. I do think that height difference at professional level is a huge disadvantage but at least ir was a ko. Quote
LFCMike Posted September 28, 2018 Posted September 28, 2018 This opens so many doors for Callum. Anfield in the summer would be class Quote
Danny Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 Managed to grab some highlights, Smith rocked Groves a couple of times so fair play. Groves fought back well but as has been said that height advantage was a killer. Great for British boxing to have a young champion in Smith, as well as being number one in the division. After that fight I look forward to seeing more of him! Didn't think a whole lot of Eubank Jr tbh, though it's his first fight in 7 months but didn't seem levels above McDonagh even though he was outboxing him. Still got some vicious hooks when they connect but also shown that they're still not that accurate. If he signs with Matchroom Hearn will go to town on him promotionally but I can't see a consistent world champ in him at super middle or middle. Could be in some explosive fights though depending on opposition. Quote

That’s when Kel Brook stepped in. Quote

I thought last night would be much more difficult for him than it turned out. It was a big step up in quality for him. Callum Smith always seems to step up when it really matters though. There's been a few fights recently where he's been a heavy favourite and not looked great Quote
