Bournemouth have sacked Gary O'Neil less than seven months after he was appointed as the club's permanent manager.

The 40-year-old took charge as interim boss after Scott Parker was sacked in August, then was appointed on a permanent basis in November.

Interesting.

Does he deserve it? No. Did he do a good job in the circumstances? Absolutely.

However, as weird as it is, Bournemouth have new owners now that want to elevate the club. The Premier League can attract the best managers in the world, top class managers that will be miles better than Gary O'Neil, let's be fair.

It's really tricky knowing when to stick with loyalty and when to be ballsy. So many clubs stick with caretaker managers don't they and then they struggle to take the team forward after they achieve the short term goal.

If you make that decision with your heart, chances are at some point next season, Bournemouth go on a bad run and O'Neil gets sacked. Appointing someone then becomes harder, where as, it's perfect timing now, especially if they have indication someone with pedigree is available. Could potentially get Potter for example or an exciting foreign coach.

To be totally honest, I think Bournemouth were fortunate ourselves and Leicester were as bad as we were. Literally a swing of luck here or there and they would have gone. They didn't really stay up because they were actually very good.

Fuck sake. Great appointment that.

Hugely jealous. We wanted him after sacking Marsch and he wouldn't leave Real Vallecano mid season whilst they were competing for Europe.

If we hadn't been so mis managed, he'd have been ours.

Could get this dramatically wrong but Bournemouth will be in a far better position with him in charge than O'Neil.

It's very harsh but it's got an air of Southampton sacking Nigel Adkins for Pochettino for me and that proved a good move. It's ruthless. We'd have stayed up with even 20% of that kind of ruthlessness.

You wonder if Gary O'Neil didn't actually fully fancy it himself. Maybe not quite the same scenario but Craig Shakespeare only took the job with us as he felt obliged to rather than because he wanted to. Some assistants do just prefer being that. But could be well wide of the mark.

People making out this is a travesty on social media. Bournemouth were average and survived only by 5 points. He would have taken them down next season, 100%.

Good move from Bournemouth.
