When you’ve got that much grip in the bag, you’re laughing. YES PHIL. But it's significant because you can tell the quality of the drivers when you see Verstappen nearly causing 2 incidents and Ricciardo sailing clean through. Plus Hamilton should've pitted during the safety car. Not sure why they didn't and we may not be having this discussion if they did! 1 Quote

Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted April 15, 2018 Subscriber Posted April 15, 2018 Wow. After sleeping through much of the first half of the race I'm glad the second half came alive. Danny Ric 🔥. Bottas drove well, could easily have won that after holding Vettel off but for the safety car. Hamilton was beaten fair and square by him this weekend. Vettel very unlucky. Kimi did okay and was quick but doesn't have the killer instinct to make key overtakes these days. The Red Bulls looked like they were in a different formula with the stronger tyres. One of their drivers successfully took the candy from the baby but Max Maldonado struck again and ruined his and Vettels race. After the safety car he was actually just in front of his race winning team mate. Championship should be interesting at this rate. Quote

God is Haaland Posted April 15, 2018 Posted April 15, 2018 Ferrari's strategy was so bad. Bottas was 3.2s behind Vettel and Ferrari allowed to Mercedes to make an undercut. Quote

Even copied the caption from reddit, that's just low effort Anyway, something needs to be done about Verstappen. 3 times in a row he ruined his own race, and not just his own. Quote
nudge Posted April 15, 2018 Posted April 15, 2018 Verstappen is still a young kid, just 20 years old, also missed on a few seasons in GP2 and GP3 since he got promoted so early, and in addition, he does not have the best genetic predispositions when it comes to temperament and anger management I personally love aggressive driving style, he just needs to learn to keep his cool and be more patient. If he manages that, he'll be a heck of a driver in a few years. Taking responsibility for his action after the race today is a good sign, hope he learns from this, would love to see someone as ruthless as him but with much better decision making on track. Quote

I like aggressive driving and courageous, brave driving but it's not always about being aggressive all the time. There's a time and a place for it and that's what separates the good from the great. As you say, age is on his side because he can learn to be aggressive and reap the rewards for it, as opposed to causing incidents and/or controversy. 1 Quote

DeadLinesman Posted April 15, 2018 Posted April 15, 2018 We’ll be having this same conversation next year and the year after though. He’ll still be young at 22, but have 5 seasons behind him. When do you stop blaming age and just start calling someone a numpty. Agreed it’s a positive he’s taking full responsibility though. Quote

Maybe, maybe not. The number of races under one's belt is of course important and he's not a rookie anymore, but it's not a guarantee for maturity either, especially with all the media hype around him... If he realises that he only puts himself at a disadvantage with his actions, he's still young enough to turn it around. Whether or not Max manages to develop into a more level-headed driver is anyone's guess at this point; knowing his father, it's also easy to understand why people are having doubts haha, but I'm still not writing him off. Hamilton was accused of being too aggressive when overtaking in the past. Vettel lost his cool numerous times. Same with Alonso. The difference is learning to keep it under control and take calculated risks, a lot of which does come with maturity. Quote

Moderator Tommy Posted April 16, 2018 Moderator Posted April 16, 2018 And you gotta feel sorry for the Toro Rosso guys. Clearly a miscommunication. Gasly thought Hartley will let him pass, because the team apparently told him he'd do that, and Hartley didn't get the memo. Quote
