Subscriber Dan+ Posted November 5, 2017 Subscriber Posted November 5, 2017 As you've said previously, it's all symptomatic of this obsession the media have (and that the fans have completely swallowed) of trying to turn the whole thing into some big soap opera. Another example of it today was Crouch getting man of the match for our game. He's come on and scored a header, unmarked, and spent the rest of the 20 minutes he was on doing absolutely nothing other than heading the ball aimlessly. Man of the match? Hyperbole.

Exactly it has gotten to a point where football itself is only a minor part of the way football is delivered to the public. If you tallied up the ratio of talk about how teams press, what combinations they tried to create, how they did their build-up, what kind of movements they made (basically, the actual football) and compared it to talk about transfers, mentality, attitude, managers, foreigners, knowing the league, sackings and mind-games (aka vacuous shite) it would probably be very depressing reading. And as you said, the fans swallow it up so we get the media we deserve. The vicious cycle continues of Sky et al responding to the increasingly idiotic tastes of the fans who are themselves being increasingly dumbed-down. Edit: even when Sky try and whip out the stats it's inevitably some insanely basic figure taken wildly out of context meant to either paint a player in a vastly unrealistic light, or to prove what can be easily seen. Or they're comparing players "Aggressivness" stats out of 20 from FM.

Administrator Stan Posted November 5, 2017 Author Administrator Posted November 5, 2017 Spurs struggling to make any clear cut chances here. lots of crosses in to the box but Palace defending strongly. Palace should have had a penalty when Gazzaniga nearly took Sakho's head off. Dann had a good header saved by him though just now.
Administrator Stan Posted November 5, 2017 Author Administrator Posted November 5, 2017 Oh Wilfred Zaha. What a miss. Palace counter, Gazzaniga hesitates, Zaha rounds him and misses an open goal.
Administrator Stan Posted November 5, 2017 Author Administrator Posted November 5, 2017 Spurs have a LOT to thank Gazzaniga for. 3 brilliant saves so far.
Administrator Stan Posted November 5, 2017 Author Administrator Posted November 5, 2017 finally Spurs breakthrough! Bit of a scramble in the box, not cleared properly and falls to Son who curls a shot nicely in past Speroni.
Chaaay AFC Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 Nice to see Wenger actually mix it up, but at the expense of Lacazette and to play Coquelin? I think he has gone far to defensive with the midfield here. Although he has been brilliant in a back 3 this season I do worry about Monreal in a two. I think we are going to struggle...
Guest Cannabis Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 Embarrassing to even suggest that this Manchester City are anywhere near as good as the Invincibles of the 00's.

Chaaay AFC Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 Actually looks like a back 3 for us with Coquelin at CB.

Administrator Stan Posted November 5, 2017 Author Administrator Posted November 5, 2017 De Bruyne! 1-0 City.
Guest Cannabis Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 De Bruyne isn't half making Mourinho look a mug, the lad's world-class.
Inverted Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 De Bruyne is a joke man, what can you even say.
LFCMadLad Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 He’s just on another level at the moment. Close to being world class.

Administrator Stan Posted November 5, 2017 Author Administrator Posted November 5, 2017 Man City are absolutely frightening on the attack. So much pace and ability to create space as well despite being up against 4 or 5 defenders.
