Riot police used water cannon to disperse Feyenoord fans after their team lost to Rotterdam rivals Excelsior to take the Dutch league title race to the final day of the season.

Leaders Feyenoord started four points ahead of nearest challengers Ajax.

But Feyenoord lost 3-0, while Ajax crushed Go Ahead Eagles 4-0.

Thousands of Feyenoord fans had gathered in the city centre hoping to celebrate their club's first Dutch league title since 1999.

Ajax are one point behind Feyenoord going into the final day next Sunday.

Feyenoord will win their 14th Dutch league crown if they beat mid-table Heracles at home.

But Ajax can finish top if they win away to Willem II and the leaders slip up.

Poor kid :(

I was watching this live, I dont think the fans who let the bangers off knew the boy would be there, it was protest about modern football.  The boy did look very scared, nice the players looked after him.

I love this gesture. And even more so that they revealed it on the day that would have been his birthday, too!

I hope they can win the Europa League in further honour of the great man himself.

exciting end to the Dutch league tomorrow, Feyenoord can win the league if they win their home match against Heracles Almelo, if Feyenoord draw and Ajax win away to Willem II then Ajax become champions.

Happy for Feyenoord. Important club in the Netherlands without many titles wins in forever. Remind me of Cruz Azul and Alianza Lima.

I'm more happy for Renato Tapia though. Sure he didn't get much playing time this season but that's 2 Peruvians winning titles in one weekend. Not something you see every week.
