@nudgeDune Part 2 officially announced for 2023.

I can’t wait to see part 1, hopefully in the next week or so.

That's brilliant news. I was a bit worried why there hasn't been an announcement yet, so it's a relief to hear it has been officially greenlit now.

Watched it today and have to say I can't see what everyone is upset about, its shot very well (as would be expected considering who is directing the movie) and the casting is good. I had my reservations about a few of the cast members but they didn't disappoint. I was a bit disappointed in the role Rebecca Ferguson was going to play but its nothing that detracts from how the movie actually plays out. The time will fly when you're watching this as it certainly did for me.

Also, would it be possible to change the title and append a SPOILERS at the end of it? I think folks shouldn't come in here and have things ruined with there being a P2 but then again the movie kind of starts with it saying its P1 so I can't see why that would be a spoiler.

If ever there was a film that didn’t meet the hype this was it. I enjoyed it but if you take away the good cinematography you’re just left with some decent performances about a “the chosen one” type story covered in sand.

Still I look forward to the second film.

You didn't read the novels, did you?

I did not no haha. As a complete newcomer it was quite a basic storyline. Chosen one, bit of magic, essentially Harry Potter in the desert

In that case, all I can say without spoilers - keep on watching the sequels (hopefully there will be more)! I can assure you it's not the story of "the chosen one" and not even your typical hero's journey, either :)

I think this is one of my little gripes with it too. The idea of making this movie is to give newcomers to the story-line a chance to get immersed in it and maybe that is where the movie falls a bit short. That said I think they are building up for a middle ground movie without doing too much in the first.

A somewhat longer review now that I have slept on it.

The visuals are absolutely incredible. So beautiful, so epic. The worldbuilding is amazing, especially the level of detail which is mind blowing. The casting is perfect, the characters are well developed and interesting. I wasn't sure about Chalamet playing Paul, but he nailed the role. No emo teen vibes, either. The storytelling is quality. I particularly liked the pace of it - somewhat slow, but not too drawn out and not boring at all; it kept me glued to the screen throughout the movie. The musical score is eery and very fitting. The ending might seem a bit abrupt, but as it says at the start, this is Dune: Part1, and it covers about half of the original book. The only negative about that is having to wait for years for Part 2 now, but other than that, I'd say that Villeneuve nailed it and managed to adapt the source material really well, engaging both readers and non-readers alike.

Highly recommended.

I loved your review before seeing it and now that I have I couldnt agree more. Absolutely loved every minute of it. Cant wait for the sequel(s).

I might have to head to the books too Im thinking.

On a side note; is Hans Zimmer just not the best? The score was just so perfectly matched to the amazing visuals and settings at all times. This is definitely one of those comes accross even better in theatres. Really reminded me of seeing Dunkirk in theatres in that it was just so impactful with big screen and big sound, highly recommend.

I also loved the score. So eery, atmospheric and otherwordly! Throat singing rocks.

He's the executive producer and will also direct the pilot episode :D I think they are taking The Mandalorian route and will have several directors!

Is this your version of "forgive but don't forget"?... xD
