The second one for me.

First one for me, just though. But the back story in the second movie for me are the best scenes in the entire trilogy.

Second Godfather - 9.5/10.

Which do you lot prefer? The first or second?

The first ones are always the best for me...

  • The Godfather
  • Rambo (First Blood)
  • Die Hard
  • Lethal Weapon
  • Beverly Hill Cops

Canary Black (2024)- Kate Beckinsale, Ray Stevenson - Action/Thriller  7.5/10

Not bad.

It follows Avery Graves as she is blackmailed by terrorists into betraying her own country to save her kidnapped husband.

The Gift, well made and underrated - 8.1/10,

Indeed. I really liked it as well. Also a bit of a different role for Jason Bateman for a change.

Watched it a year after it came out. Saw it on Prime, it said it'll be going in 30 days. Is rare a slow paced movie has me on edge.

Oh Gordo.

Passenger 57 (1992) - Wesley Snipes, Tom Sizemore -Action/Crime/Thriller - 7.0/10

Not bad but Sizemore as the villain was yuk.

An airline security expert must take action when he finds himself trapped on a passenger jet when terrorists seize control of it.

There will be blood: 2007.
10/10
An phenomenal film, no single aspect could likely be improved upon in any way. Solid contender for the best put together film of all time.

No country for old men: 2007

9.5/10
Another absolute masterpiece, watched them back to back. One of the most thrilling, tense films put to screen.

I checked that one out and IMBd has given it an 8.2/10, I can't say I have seen it before or it does not ring a bell but if Tommy Lee Jones is in it then it must be good, he is one of my favourite actors,

I have booked that for tonight on my Amazon Prime, a nice bottle of wine with my earphones in and watch it on this laptop while the wife watches all of her soap shite like EastEnders and Corry. :ay:

I watched both of them not to long ago after watching a video break down of the best antagonists.    Between Daniel Plainview and Anton Chigurh you arguably have the two best written bad guys played by two very good actors.  Those ratings are very fair

It's very dark and intense, I have seen it 3 or 4 times now in my life, and it's a masterpiece. The book is brilliant too, but I think the film is better.

Spoilers for plot and ending of TWBB

Spoiler

Until the end of the film it's almost hard to even call him an antagonist. The film pits him against Eli, and while both men are grifters, there is an honesty to Plainview. He will deal with whoever he needs to prosper, and will pay as little as he can to make deals, but he's just a grubby capitalist, while Eli is a sleazy evangelical who knowingly takes advantage of everyone he can while returning nothing at all. While Plainview pays as little as he can at every step to maximize profit, he's still providing the service he promised at the highest level.
But then he goes and kills Eli with a bowling pin so xD

He is a very complex character,  I don't think he checks the boxes of ever being regarded as a good guy and I wouldn't class him a socio or psychopath,  he does have an onset narscisistic behaviour tendency,  he is fixated on domination.   He is at the start portrayed as a working man,  silver miner who then gets a silver tongue to manipulate people,  when he doesn't turn them by slight of tongue he turns them in aggression to get his way.

He shows some empathetical characteristics towards HW and his fake brother,  but when they let him down he loses all semblance of humanity and resorts to the all and everything person.

I would still characterise him as fundamentally evil.

As far as complex evil characters go,  I would rank them;

  1. Daniel Plainview
  2. Hans Landa
  3. Anton Chigurgh
  4. Calvin Candi

I remember seeing an interview with Josh Brolin talking about Javier during the filming. He said he didnt want to leave his hotel room and hated his haircut. He and Woody took him out for beers just to get him outside xD Such a good movie though. I actually just watched it again recently, maybe a month ago. The coin scene with the store owner is one of my favourite scenes from anything. It just encapsulates the movie perfectly in one 3ish min scene.

The Forgotten Battle (2020) - Action/Adventure/War -Staring Gijs Blom, Jamie Flatters - 8.5/10.

Can't say it's another The Longest Day, The Battle of the Bulge but I quite enjoyed it.

In WWII's final years, a soldier in the German army, a British glider pilot, and a Dutch resistance fighter's paths intertwine. Their choices shape destinies, impacting not only their freedom but also that of others.

The Forgotten Battle (Dutch: De Slag om de Schelde) is a 2020 Dutch war drama film directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. that depicts the Battle of the Scheldt in 1944.
