Playing a bit of devil's advocate here, still publishing Goretzka's statement is a bit hypocritical from Bayern, as long as their officials have no qualms to take the sports washing money from Qatar Airways. Am aware a considerable number of the club's fans are in favour of ending this deal, though, therefore only included Bayern's officials and honourary president in my criticism..3 points

You act like these are the only things that are ever eaten here . They're iconic dishes (apart from the bottom two which looks like @CaaC (John)'s lunches ). But the food here is far from bland if people give an ounce of effort.2 points

I must admit it's something that annoys me quite a bit in general and is also the reason why I can't take any of this kind of activism seriously - it's all just loud words and sometimes some meaningless symbolic gestures in vocal support of some cause, but no action - when it actually matters, they all bury their heads in the sand. Putting on a t-shirt, making loud public statements, posting trending hashtags, taking a knee or using catchy slogans is easy and comes at no cost compared to actually taking a hard stance against something in a way that may have personal consequences to you. Normally, I wouldn't care and I also absolutely don't expect everyone to be opposing every issue on the planet personally (I know I'm not), but I can't stand virtue signaling and empty platitudes, then disregarding it completely and bending over for whoever waves a wad of cash or better career prospects at them. Hypocrites, the lot of them.2 points

Yeah, Zetterer also posted it, but a shorter version without those comments Bittencourt comes across as a joker in that Werder documentary, too2 points

Not surprised that it came from Bittencourt. I remember him crashing an interview, asking the reporters for wifi because he wanted to listen to music in the changing room. Like a kid asking his mom if he's allowed to use the Playstation.2 points

It was not Füllkrug who posted the video, but Bittencourt, I believe2 points

Niclas Füllkrug posted a video where he watched the Squad announcement in Bremen's locker room. When Adeyemi was announced you could hear someone say "Are you kidding me?", and when Brand was announced, someone said "Why him?" He already deleted the video.2 points

100%, its also a bit of a hollow statement from Goretzka himself when the players could take actions themselves. I do still appreciate him speaking his mind on these topics when seemingly so few do.2 points

I don't think it's really surprising that people prefer relative political stability, even in rough economic times, compared to daily scandals during the rough times. The constant state of absolute chaos in US politics was tough to take even during the stable times, but I think COVID under Trump really pushed more moderates away from his brand of "governance" & I also think the constant defense of the use of violence to promote political causes has turned a lot of moderates off from many of the Republican candidates that were floated. I don't think the recent attack on Pelosi, where her husband got beaten with a hammer, and the reaction from certain republican leaders... not just not condemning the attack, but making jokes and seeming to condone it... I don't think that really presented the best optics to a lot of voters. It's funny because if Trump had just a bit of competence, I think things could have gone very differently for Republicans. All he really had to do was throw the weight of the US government into a strong and serious COVID response instead of waiting around, not really doing anything, and blaming people for taking a pandemic seriously. Clearly American voters reward action in the face of crisis. So constant states of political crisis in a time of crisis outside of politics... it shouldn't be surprising that people aren't so into that... I think it's telling that these midterms went differently to how must US midterm elections went. Especially when you look at voter ages and how certain generations turned out to vote - it's more younger people than typically voting in a midterm election too. Republicans need to adapt if they want their policies to resonate with more voters. And it's something these 24/7 news channels need to come to grips with as their average viewer age is really high, mostly watched by people over 55 (Fox News' median voter age is 69!), and flipping between their 3 big news channels on election night was absolutely hilarious. They were stunned that their predictions were all bollocks and that they didn't really have a pulse on the voters of the country. Which is a bit weird because they didn't really have a pulse on the voters of the country in 2016 either. But I do think it's interesting that typically the biggest issue for voters is the economy. And that was definitely true of the US elections in 2022 as the world is facing energy costs having exploded & global inflation... and yet the party in the white house did not take an absolute battering in the election. But I think it's got to be because enough people who turned up were worried about what divisive morons who only push culture wars and tax cuts would do in these times where the world seems like a tinderbox and many people are feeling economic pressure.1 point

It is interesting. Typically midterms swing towards whoevers not in the white house. Couple still too close to call but most of the Orange one's endorsed candidates ended up losing. Even Fox is hedging bets and Kaleigh fuckfaceeneny even said the Orangutan should wait to make any 2024 running announcements based on these results.1 point

Had to live 52 years to experience that, believe it or not the "German Council of economic wise men and women" actually endorsed the higher federal budget and indeed recommended either a solidarity surcharge for everyone, or, and that'a unheard of from them, raising the maximum income tax. Honestly, this panel in favour of anything else than austerity and tax cut is absolutely surprising.1 point

Was curious and saw Ocasio Cortez won 70.2 % of the votes so far. Imagined getting drop kicked would embody to lose?1 point

I have very mixed feelings as I'm scared of him picking up an injury while there, but all things considered, he deserves it and it would probably mean a lot to him, so I do hope it happens...1 point

There's so much to unpack in it. 1.) Calling for removal of "rinos" - even though he's in support of republicans that are really nothing like a traditional republicans... and are really just republican in name only (which is where the term "rino" fucking comes from) - he might be more right-wing than republicans traditionally were... but that doesn't make traditional republicans rinos; if anything it's absolutely the other way around. But honestly that's just a flaw in America's political system that doesn't really function properly if you've got more than 2 parties tbh. Same thing with the democrats in America. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Joe Biden wouldn't be in the same political party in most countries - but they are in America because the system doesn't really work properly with more than 2 parties. 2.) Being racist is "screaming" about other people being racist. Not... you know... saying or doing racist things. Honestly, this just comes off as being annoyed that people get called out for being openly racist in 2022. 3.) That Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who a lot of right-wing people are absolutely obsessed with for some reason (I think they want to fuck her but know she'd say no, tbh), is getting "dropkicked" in her district... is not what any of the polling indications seem to be predicting: https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2022-election-forecast/house/new-york/14/ - also her opponent has NO ENDORSEMENTS, which in the US is the sign of a nothing candidate 4.) "83% of America disagrees with the democrat position on abortion" - first, the democratic position - as far as I can tell - has been to go back to the way federal abortion laws were before the Supreme Court changed things. Secondly... it's just not even close to an accurate statistic: https://apnorc.org/projects/public-holds-nuanced-views-about-access-to-legal-abortion/ - most Americans are in favour of abortion 5.) the "transgender fantasy" - as though gender issues are the driving political force of one side of US politics. Here's the democratic party platform: https://democrats.org/where-we-stand/party-platform/ - surprise, surprise... not ONE SINGLE FUCKING MENTION of transgender stuff (other than wanting to make sure they're treated like humans, which is fair... because they're humans. And to prevent suicides amongst them) - it's a minor social issue, not a driving part of any party's platform. As someone living here yes, I think the US has a lot of problems... but it's bizarre and hilarious to see someone out of the country think they've got a good read on the political pulse of the US while being so far off from being accurate. And why the fuck is he so invested in the culture wars the US right-wing is so intent on using as distraction issues to get people to not think about the economic and political issues (that voters, regardless of political party, tend to find lots of unity in)? It's basically a case study on why people shouldn't get their news from anything affiliated with Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, or at least look at various other sources before trusting what any News Corp media outlet has to tell you.1 point
