Devil Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 With the news this week that all going well we could be back living a normal life by June/July, it's got me thinking about the stuff that we couldn't do that we take for granted. Cinema - I used to love taking my kids to the Cinema on a weekend. Ten pin bowling - Again another family activity we enjoy and have missed out on. The pub with my mate - Goes without saying this one, just wanna get back in the pub to watch the football or a few pints with the lads without any silly restrictions.
Administrator Stan Posted February 25, 2021 Administrator Posted February 25, 2021 Seeing my fiancé Not being able to have a proper Indian engagement ceremony. Our families would have met each other by now at least a few times but they've missed that opportunity before the wedding Family gatherings/visiting family Going to watch football Just going out on a whim when you feel like it to see some mates, generally socialising Holidays abroad Pubs Restaurants - finding new places to eat and old favourites After-work drinks - would usually go out with the team once a month, as well as any other reason

Everyone was so relaxed, masks in shops obviously but because everything is open air and chilled it just felt like two weeks of no virus worries. Obviously restaurants were open for a period so we still tended to go out for a weekly meal the last being my daughters birthday which was the start of November. I do miss the social aspect of sitting and having a meal but it's not something I miss to the point of being desperate for it's return. Maybe that's because I've saved so much bloody money by not eating out.

We had Malta in September - their cases were ridiculously low for most of summer, they had a bit of a spike and then it got black-listed. My parents had Prague in October but missed out as it got black-listed too. With restaurants, they were open but my missus and I used to meet up every weekend and it was one thing we'd love to do together purely because we both love our food. So having that taken away, even though it came back temporarily, was a big miss.

Turkey wasn't actually our first choice, we originally had Dubai booked for May but obviously at point everything got cancelled, we really gutted because we'd never been before. We then booked Tenerife as a last minute thing and the next day that got blacklisted so we had to do a destination swap as quick as we could because everyone who had Spanish trips booked were on the phone changing location. Ended up in Oludeniz in Turkey which was new for us as we'd never done Turkey but it was amazing. Best holiday in years due to the fact it was such a relief to feel normal again.
Toinho Posted February 25, 2021 Posted February 25, 2021 Really feel for you guys. I can’t even fathom how difficult it would have been and still is. Fingers crossed that normality comes soon!

Crazy how certain businesses are fine running but you can't have your hair cut. If you've both got a mask or visor on I don't see the issue myself, they could have been asked to ensure people arrived in time slots and sprayed down the seats etc.. once done. I've actually been shaving mine to a number 2 all over but like you can't wait for the barbers to open again so I can get a proper haircut. Sick of looking like a GI Joe action figure.
Subscriber Mel81x+ Posted February 25, 2021 Subscriber Posted February 25, 2021 So, things are almost trending towards a zero state back here for example. I've met colleagues for drinks and dinner. Still have precautions but its not a big deal as we have to anyways to stop infections I've travelled a bit but its still a bit inconvenient and worrying when you see folks not following protocol Schools are slowly finding their way back to kids coming back in and while its a PITA to have to get through them sometimes to get home its nice to see that they are getting back The things that still aren't 100% back are cinemas, international travel, going to the gym, music shows and getting back into studios for jam sessions. Although, the news going around is that we're trending towards that before end of year and I really hope we do stay the course.

I don't get why they can't open up earlier than April 12 in the latest set of easing restrictions.

Yep, that's one of them, I don't like my hair long, you get some guys about my age with long grey hair with ponytails and studs in their ears thinking they are the bee's knees and still living in a teen world. The other thing I missed was just having a normal way of life if out shopping with the wife popping into the local pub, club or British Legion for a social visit and having a pint and maybe some nosh, visit our daughter and grandsons and taking them out for a meal or whatnot. When this COVID first hit and the lockdown we could not see our daughter and grandsons for 5 months and it was a fucking nightmare, our son is staying with us now and we could not see his son Alexander, our second oldest grandson too, to me and the wife it was like as if I was back in the army and on a 5/6 month tour of duty in NI and not seeing the wife & loved ones for months. We are just keeping our fingers crossed now that this COVID nightmare will just disappear and not seem as if we are living back in medieval times and with the Black Death.
Subscriber Pyfish+ Posted February 25, 2021 Subscriber Posted February 25, 2021 Seeing my family and friends is the big one. I moved to Leeds from Grimsby at the end of 2019 and then a few months later, we're in lockdown and I can't travel to see them. Can't wait to see my Grandma mostly as she's 89 in April!
