DFB-Pokal 22/23

Recommended Posts

After this years DFB Pokal was cancelled just before the final for mysterious reasons and no winner was crowned, we will have the next iteration starting very soon.

This Traditionsreiche tournament will be watched far and wide and may the best team lift the cup!

Know the old season didn't end yet, since the first round draw wil be on Sunday, May the 29th, it seems appropriate to create this topic, though. Also came in to moan about the round of 16 been divided  into two weeks. Know that football became too commercialised long time ago, still this is a reminder how much I despise that. Anyway, here are the dates:

First round

July the 29th til August the 1st + 30th + 31th of August

Although it's understandable Bayern and their opponents play only at the end of August since the Supercup will be played on the 30th of July, I can see no good reason why they postponed two matches.

Second round

October, the 18th and 19th

Round of 16

January the 31st/ Feb the 1st + Feb the 7th/8th

Already gave my two cent, booo.

Quarterfinals

April the4th and 5th

Semifinals

May the 2nd and 3rd

Final

June the 3rd

Done.

What's the reason for the 2-week split for Round of 16?

To give you a less capricious response. There was a new TV deal with some bidders offering more money if the sum of games at the same time would be reduced. This is a consequence of that.

Kevin Großkreutz has drawn the following matches:

Regensburg - Köln

Engers - Bielefeld

Lübeck - Rostock

Kaan-Marienborn - Nürnberg

Schott Mainz - Hannover

Neustrelitz - Karlsruhe

Ottensen - Leipzig

Dresden - VFB Stuttgart

Viktoria Berlin - Bochum

Chemnitz - Union Berlin

Elversberg - Leverkusen

Rehden - Sandhausen

Wernigerode - Paderborn

Rödinghausen - Hoffenheim

Illertissen - Heidenheim

Offenbach - Düsseldorf

Braunschweig - Hertha BSC Berlin

1860 München - Dortmund

Kaiserslautern - Freiburg

Oberachern - Mönchengladbach

Ingolstadt - Darmstadt

Waldhof - Kiel

Lohne - Augsburg

Straelen - St Pauli

Bayreuth - Hamburg

Aue - Mainz

Cottbus - Werder Bremen

Bremer SV - Schalke

Jena - Wolfsburg

Stuttgarter Kickers - Fürth

Viktoria Köln - Bayern München

Magdeburg - Frankfurt

Elversberg were matched up with Leverkusen, and 1860 were drawn with Dortmund. Seeing this can't eat as much as I would like to vomit FCS neither won Saarland-Pokal nor finished on 4th spot in 3. Liga.:(

Worst possible match-up we could have had. Not to sound rude but really no one wanted Ingolstadt as the opponent. Was really hoping for Mannheim or Offenbach so that there'd be a bit of fire in the game. Oh well, I think we could get through to the second round as long as we keep ourselves focussed.

@Tommy Please be so kind unpin the old DFB-Pokal thread and pin this one.

Done!

So we got Offenbach. Sounds easy on paper, but we're known for infamous first round knockouts. Hopefully things will change under Thioune.

Offenbach - Düsseldorf 0:1 at half-time. Hoffmann brought us the lead with a header after a corner. Heated atmosphere at the Bieberer Berg, and it took us 15-20 minutes to find our way into the match. After that we were pretty much in control, but Offenbach still had a few dangerous counter attacks. So we are not quite out of the woods yet.

Pretty dominant result in the end. I thought it's going to be a tough ride when Offenbach pulled one back to 1:2, but a nice goal from Kristoffer Peterson and a brace from Daniel Ginczek sealed Offenbach's fate.

The commentator said that Offenbach play Wormatia Worms next and I couldn't stop thinking about what a funny club name that is, especially to English speaking people. xD

Leverkusen will have a lot of fun in the league with that defence...

Leverkusen conceding 4 goals against a 3 Liga side. It's not even as if Leverkusen rested loads of first team players, they pretty much played their best team, with the exception of maybe 2 or 3 players. I think that they really need to get their act together before the Bundesliga starts, because that was an embarrassing result and performance by them against Elversberg.
