Redcanuck Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Is Brighton's third string keeper really much better than what they have?

Cicero Posted July 31, 2023 Author Posted July 31, 2023 We need a 2nd string goal keeper with experience. With Kepa’s wages the club can’t bring in another goalkeeper on high wages until he leaves. At best Sanchez competes with Kepa and the price being touted is apparently somewhat attractive given Brighton need to sell.
Devil Posted July 31, 2023 Posted July 31, 2023 Sanchez is better than Kepa. That's how mental the transfer fee paid for Kepa was.
Redcanuck Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 I dont get why Sanchez would exchange being a back up at Brighton to be a back up at Chelsea. You think he would want to go somewhere he was guaranteed to start.

In the long term either he regains his form and the trajectory he was headed, or he stays 2nd choice once we bring a Top new GK (or if Slonina reaches his potential) to replace Kepa.
Rick Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 I’m surprised Chelsea aren’t all over Raya. He’s miles better than Kepa, and he will no it’s not going to take a lot of effort to become first choice.

Reality is we already have his goalkeeping coach at the club (the one that raised him to the level he was at) and on a metric standpoint Raya didn't really out perform Kepa all that much. He even conceded more long shots than Kepa which is his weakest element.

Raya's probably too expensive for a side like Chelsea that are seeking to overhaul a lot of areas on the pitch. Although they've got a lot of deadwood to trim too. It's funny that they're close to offloading Lukaku to Juve, but Juve's insisting on a swap deal where they lose a player they don't want... but are also demanding an additional £40m.
