LFCMike Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 I think we only see players get new deals early if they've come in on a comparatively low wage, done really well and have shown they're worth more than they're on. With Trent, he's already on a very good wage so there wasn't really any need to start talks when he still had two years left. It's an unfortunate set of circumstances that have led to him being down to the final 6/7 months without a new deal in place but I don't think it's one we can be overly critical of the club for. Rick Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 So in only two days time, all three of the players out of contract this summer can sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs. I don’t know what the hell is going on at management level, but this situation continues to be a failure from whoever is handling it. Joke of a situation. Quote
LFCMike Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Don't let the contract situations spoil your enjoyment of what's happening on the pitch with this team. What will be, will be with the contracts. None of us know how close or far away any of them are. Bring me trophies this season. Quote

Do you think you'll think any differently if news comes out sometime in January that one of the three players have signed a pre contract with another team and will join them for next season? I'm with you now on the current contract situation as on the pitch no one seems concerned and that's the most important thing. Quote
Dr. Gonzo Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 I’m not filled with a ton of confidence in keeping any of the big name players who have their contracts expiring, looking at FSG’s history with the same sort of situation in US sports. They’re cheap cunts honestly. So best we can do is just enjoy them while we have them and hope for the best. Quote
Dave Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Alan Nixon has reported that Marc Guehi could join Liverpool. Alan Nixon has a reputation for being used by agents, but for Palace it's well known that his source is Dougie Freedman and I don't think he'd want to sour that relationship. Its been known that Dougie is high on Ben Doak. So it may be in the summer we work out a deal where Liverpool get a left footed CB for a big market discount because he's in the last year of his contract and there's a player exchange involved. One to keep an eye on for the summer. Quote

Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted December 30, 2024 Subscriber Posted December 30, 2024 Where would Van Dijk or Salah even go if they didn't renew? I can see Alexander-Arnold going to Real Madrid and I can see the logic behind Salah being linked to Saudi but I just don't buy it when he's in this sort of form. Quote

With the form Salah's in, I imagine he'd have his pick of clubs if we don't get him to sign a new contract. And if the DOF fails to get him to sign another contract, I think he'll have fans calling for him to be dragged through the streets and publicly humiliated before getting sacked. Don't Madrid have a serious issue at CB? Could see them being in for both of our defenders. It's an absolutely idiotic position FSG's got us in with probably our 3 most important players all having their contracts expire at the same time, so I understand why some of my fellow LFC fans are pissed off. Still think there's nothing we can really do but enjoy the season while we can. FSG are cheap arses for sure, but they've given us some good times. Sure they did squander some of that time we had under Klopp by being frugal... but overall we're a pretty self-sustaining club now that is enjoying a period of stability after decades of instability. I doubt Salah goes anywhere else in England though and Real Madrid are already stacked in those forward positions. Barcelona are in financial shit and I don't think the Italian clubs will offer Salah a better deal than Liverpool either. That basically leaves Bayern and PSG. I don't think Paris holds much appeal now that Neymar, Messi and Mbappe have all been and gone without showing you can win the Champions League with them. I assume they still have the cash to make him a silly offer though. So maybe Bayern have the "new challenge" appeal and PSG have the "here's a Cristiano Ronaldo level salary without having to lower yourself to the Saudi retirement league" appeal but neither seem like a slam dunk to me in terms of being worth leaving Liverpool in their current circumstances. I don't really know about the central defensive options of clubs across the continent so maybe Van Dijk does have more likely suitors. It just seems weird that either of them would leave Liverpool now when they could probably win more major trophies between now and the end of a 2 year extension than they have in their whole time there up to now. Administrator Stan Posted December 30, 2024 Administrator Posted December 30, 2024 I can see Bayern going for him and they can get rid of Sane and a couple of others. Wonder if @Viva la FCB would take him Van Dijk can probably go anywhere he wants as well. Quote

I think all three are professional enough to not let anything like that affect their performances. Their form this season is proof of that. I think Salah and VVD renew anyway. Trent I've no idea, think he's probably gone. Quote

You can't just ignore the fact that Klopp told them he was leaving in about November last year (publicly announced in January) has played a massive role in us getting to this point. It's not a criticism of Klopp, it's just a fact. They couldn't start negotiating when the three had about 18 months left because they didn't even know who the next manager was going to be. The players had every right to hold out and see how things went under the new manager. Quote

Although honestly Salah’s always been on another level to Mane. There was a time where some people were saying Mane was the better of the 2, but I don’t think I ever saw or understood why. He’s probably the best Liverpool player in my lifetime, even better than Stevie. And there’s a good case he’s our best player since Dalglish. I think it’d be criminal if we let him leave. 1 Quote

Yeah I feel you, I was mostly talk tongue in cheek.. but seriously have I mentioned Mane was a disaster I haven't seen anything even linking the idea to us before and I just assumed hes staying with you guys, I hope he does anyways. Its an interesting time for us as well as we have a handful of contract/personnel decisions coming up here too. The main one is Kimmich's contract expiring in the summer for example. To a lesser extent Sane but most of our wing players are pretty up in the air. Quote

Agree with everything you say on Salah. Mane was unbelievable that season we won the league though. The amount of important goals he scored was unbelievable. Goals that were either winners or to break the deadlock in tight games. Quote
LFCMike Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 So Liverpool have knocked back Real Madrid over signing TAA in January Quote
