Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted December 3 Author Subscriber Posted December 3 Results - Qatar Grand Prix A bit of a collective recovery this weekend after a couple of very difficult races. Nobody predicted Max Verstappen for pole position so nobody gets any points. Perhaps we'll have to introduce a rule next year for the person/people to pick the highest qualifier that saw any backing to get 2 consolation points like we do elsewhere, but for now, no points scored on Saturday. Nobody predicted a Verstappen victory either, but @Stan, @Whiskey, @Dave, @DeadLinesman and @OrangeKhrush all had him elsewhere in their top three, scoring them 2 points each. @RandoEFC was the only one to nail Leclerc's finishing position in 2nd, while @MUFC, @nudge, @Whiskey, @DeadLinesman and @OrangeKhrush get 2 for having him one position away on either side. @RandoEFC, @Tommy and @Dave all bag 5 points for Piastri's 3rd place with @Stan and @MUFC picking up consolation points. Esteban Ocon was this weekend's random driver and retired on the first lap. Everyone predicted him between 9th and 11th so the 2 consolation points had to go to @Stan, @nudge and @Whiskey who predicted him lower than the rest. Finally, Pierre Gasly's 5th place secures Alpine as this week's top scoring team in the battle for 6th. I'm actually relieved by this as I worded it as "this weekend" when I meant "on Sunday" so luckily Gasly scored enough points in the main race to render Hulkenberg's 2 Sprint Race points to be irrelevant anyway. The points for this one go to @RandoEFC, @Tommy, @nudge, @Whiskey, @DeadLinesman and @OrangeKhrush. Update - Season Predictions Not much has changed here but I wanted to be clear with what's in play going into the final race. The WDC points and Drivers to Win a Race points can not change in any way. The WCC points can change - if Ferrari win the WCC instead of McLaren, @Tommy's score will be boosted from 10 to 20 for this prediction. Constructors to Score a Podium could technically still go to anyone but seems very unlikely to shift up from 5 in the last race. Most Retirements - this is the only one where the provisional score has changed since the last update. Alex Albon is currently sitting on 6 DNFs so none of the drivers backed by us can beat that, meaning that only 5 points are on the table. @RandoEFC is leading with Gasly's 3 DNFs heading into the final race and these points are guaranteed. Sargeant and Ocon won't be racing to boost their tally, Magnussen is more than one behind, meaning that the only other person who can become a joint winner of these points is @Dave if Stroll gets a DNF this weekend. Driver Battles - these are pretty much all locked in now. Many of the losing drivers who can mathematically change the outcome of their head-to-head aren't even racing this weekend. Barring a Zhou podium or an Albon victory, these points are locked in for @Dave and @Coma at 10 points each. Standings (One Race Remaining) As the top-scorer this weekend, and having vitally gained an extra 5 points for the "Most Retirements" category in the Season Predictions, @RandoEFC reclaims the lead of the championship with a 3 point margin ahead of @Tommy. Single figure scores for @OrangeKhrush and @MUFC leave them pretty much out of contention. At the other end, @Whiskey's double-figure score and another @Coma absence mean that there's a battle for 9th place at the last race. The Constructors' Championship is about as close as you can get, with the top three teams covered by single figures. @Tommy and @nudge hold the advantage going into the last round while consistency is key for Mercedes as @MUFC and @Dave are the only team with both drivers in the top half of the Drivers' standings. McLaren, boosted by @RandoEFC's extra 5 points from Most Retirements, are in striking distance of both with the championship leader and @DeadLinesman combining this weekend to bag the first 20+ score we've seen since Mexico. It's all to play for! The final round of predictions for Abu Dhabi will be posted tomorrow. 2 Quote
MUFC Posted December 3 Posted December 3 I may have had a chance, but I was shite in the first 7 races. I stick by what I say, winner this season will be the goat. Has been the hardest season to predict after Miami. Whiskey, we still have a chance for the constructors. Quote
Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted December 3 Author Subscriber Posted December 3 Just a few comparisons to last season which I find interesting and highlight how much harder this season has been to predict. Last season (with two fewer races), the championship scores ranged from 286 to 366 for individuals and 615 to 684 for Constructors. 2024 has already seen one extra race compared to the total of last year, and granted we have had quite a few more people miss predictions this year than last, but the current top score in the Drivers of 284 would have put you in last place last season, while the leading Constructors' scores are in the low 500s. It certainly makes it a lot more interesting compared to everyone predicting VER - VER PER LEC - etc. for all of last season, and it's mad that we introduced a "Verstappen rule" earlier this season (which also accounts for some of the lower scores to be fair) to make things more unpredictable and yet it's been completely unnecessary for over half of the season. Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted December 4 Author Subscriber Posted December 4 Just in case we get a tie in the standings, these will be decided by a head to head for each set of predictions (24 races and season predictions). E.G. if player A and player B both score 259 points, but player A outscored player B in 14 rounds compared to 11 where player B scored higher, player A will get the position in the standings. Same will apply to WCC. And I haven't checked whether this would favour me or Tommy in the event of a draw before anyone says . Quote
