6666 Posted June 2 Share Posted June 2 (edited) Just found out that the former hipster's favourite, Borussia Dortmund, have a sponsorship deal with an arms manufacturer. They actually managed to be the bigger evil in a final against Real Madrid. Fairplay to the fans protesting against it. We've heard of sponsorships with indirect ties to things people would consider unpleasant but can't remember such a direct link. Most big enterprises are debatable from an ethical view, granted. Still an arms manufacturer is yet another quality of evil than eg Siemens and many others. With all justified rejection of Borussia Dortmund's decision we can't spare DFB from criticism neither, given they banned former Buli team Homburg from being sponsored by condom manufacturer London at the end of the 8ties and amateur club SF Oberwürzbach from being sponsored by a porno star around last decade,with the justification such sponsoring wouldn't be compatible with DFB's moral values. Arms manufacturers shouldn't be allowed to generally advertise outside of things like weapon trade shows... but I certainly don't think they should have their logo plastered on kits of a football club which is primarily meant to represent a community. Shame on Borussia Dortmund for this, honestly. Is some defence minister in a foreign country going to tune into a Dortmund game and think "maybe we should give these Rheinmetall guys a go"?
