My friend told me a similar joke. Three Finnish men walk into a bar and each order a beer, one finishes his beer and asks for another. The other two glare at him for talking so much.1 point

I love Finns. Met plenty when I traveled, and I was also in a Finnish online team for some football game. I'd say 99% of the stereotypes you hear about Finns are true. And this joke is perfect too: Two Finnish men, Jukka and Pekka, go ice fishing. They fish in silence for a long while and eventually Jukka asks "So how are things?" Pekka doesn't answer and they continue fishing in silence for some more hours. Then Jukka asks, "So how is the family?" At this Pekka gets angry, stands, up and shouts "Did we come here to talk or to fish?!"1 point

I've got a friend from Sweden who says the reason it's controversial is because she's too social and having too much fun to actually be Finnish - I dunno anything about Finnish stereotypes really other than they like drinking a lot, but sounds like they're pretty fucking funny stereotypes1 point

Yeah, Liz Cheney (and her father before her) are definitely not people you can call RINOs - their party's traditional ideology is who they are at their political core. I hate her political beliefs, personally, but I don't think she's as morally depraved as the MAGA-cult brand of republicans. Her and Kizinger (idk if that's his name, but it's close at least) are repugnant politically, but are at least true to the values of their party and not white nationalists. Meanwhile the MAGA branch of their party seems to be primarily ideologically driven by white nationalism, religious fanaticism. They do both crossover in their craven loyalty to the billionaire class and corporate interests though.1 point

Liz Cheney is one of the most conservative republicans around. I will absolutely never agree with 99% of her policies but if she isnt a republican that party is an abomination. She voted something like over 90% with trump policies over his 4 years as a side bar. The Organge orangutan came up with yet another dumb catch phrase his dogs lapped up labeling anyone that has a brain and disagrees with him a "rino". Partly why I think its a very good sign if Cheney's thinking about running. Give the real republicans one more shot at being a party, having policies, having stances and plans instead of the maga conspiracy theory empty rehtoric thats been plaguing them and taking over seemingly.1 point

I think she's going to run to split the vote between real republicans and whoever the MAGA-cult candidate ends up being - Trump or DeSantis most likely. Interestingly enough, it appears a member of Trump's inner circle has trashed his own "best defense" of the FBI raid situation with the classified documents - he claimed he had declassified the documents because he could just declare them declassified. Former White House counsel Pat Cipollone has said they don't have the paperwork to declassify the documents in question. This demonstrates that: There's a proper procedure for declassifying documents that Trump was aware of The procedure requires documentation He understands the procedure, or at very least the legal representative of his administration understood the procedure So he knew he can't just declassify info by simply declaring it declassified. He knew there was a procedure to follow and document and he did not follow or document it. So what would be his legal defense now? That he can't tell right from wrong because he's never faced any accountability for his crimes? If that's the case, he's not got the moral character to be in any position of power.1 point

Old Mitch had quite the statement the other day. He says they may not win Senate control citing "candidate quality" Love it. Watching the nutbar that took out Cheney's seat and Dr Oz etc etc. Unfortunately for Mitch and Cheney the party isnt what it has been for their lifetimes anymore. Trumpism is here to stay and the mountains of idiots will never stop now that they have a lightning rod. Cheney did have some hints in her concession speech about running for president, one last attempt to try and have a real Republican party again I suppose.1 point

We can't afford to lose him, no. I'm hoping he will sign a new contract. He'll be deserving of it regardless because of how he's performed the last 12-18 months. I heard one of Newcastle's offers was an initial £20m then £20m worth of add-ons. No wonder it was described as 'insulting' by us1 point

I read it about 20 years ago, and frankly, I don't remember much of the plot, but I recall liking it. Not as much as Midnight's Children, although quite honestly, I don't remember much of it either... Maybe my Alzheimer's is kicking in already. Which would be a bit shit, but I'm quite looking forward to forgetting and then re-reading my favourite books and rewatching my favourite movies and TV shows though. There's always a silver lining1 point

I think Erdogan is an awful shitty human, but there's no doubt his foreign policy game is very strong. The Ukraine-Russia war has been nothing but a series of wins for him. He's even leveraged Russia's deepened ties with Iran to restore diplomatic relations with Israel, which I think signifies that Israel and Turkey have plans for Syria and are counting on Russia not being able to maintain their strong presence there as this Ukraine war keeps dragging on.1 point

Sorry for bringing the old post up, but I found it amusing that 50 years later, the Academy has now decided to apologise to Sacheen Littlefeather for the treatment she received back then.1 point

The only suspicious thing is that she's being almost too social for a Finn.1 point

SLS rocket with Orion spacecraft has succesfully arrived to the launch pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Center ahead of the first Artemis-I mission launch attempt. We have three potential launch windows as of now: August 29, 14:33 CET September 2, 18:48 CET September 5, 23:12 CET So it's less than 12 days to go to the first launch opportunity! So excited about it; I want everything to go well so that we get to see people back to the Moon as soon as possible!1 point
