Chelsea will turn down any loan moves for Romelu Lukaku this summer in a bid to sell the Belgium striker in a permanent deal.

They are looking to recoup some of £97.5m they paid Inter Milan for him in 2021, with their asking price believed to be about £37m as the club aims to get the 31-year-old's £325,000-a-week wages off their books.

Roma are interested in re-signing Lukaku, who spent last season on loan at the Serie A club, but are unable to meet the asking price. AC Milan and Napoli, who have just appointed Lukaku’s former manager Antonio Conte, are also reportedly interested.

But the Italian clubs have limited finances and will have to see whether Chelsea soften their stance later in the transfer window.

Napoli were also tipped to propose a swap deal for striker Victor Osimhen but Chelsea are not interested in signing the Nigerian, who is valued in excess of £100m.

Chelsea accepted a bid for Lukaku from Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal last summer but the forward rejected the move.

Steve Cooper has definitely been in contact.

Very torn on that. I think his problem is the obvious Forest connection is going to put him on a bad footing from the off, and I know we've had Morgan and O'Neill go on to do brilliantly here after years at Forest, but it's volatile enough. I'm not sure we need to add him into this.

I don't think he is a bad manager though.

If he's a good manager then so be it, in my opinion.

It's not like he's one of the almighty Forest legends or had several years there. Morgan was and that didn't deter us.

I think I can look past the Forest connection for Cooper, and he's not coming directly from there which I suppose helps (again, Morgan did though). If he can do a job to keep us up despite the points deduction and financially-impacted squad, then he's fine for me.

  3. In a similar fashion to last season, the games end with no winners after the Champions League final!

First up was the Europa Conference League final which had a first goal in the 116th minute of Extra Time. No winners there either.

The Champions League final had a late first goal, in the 74th minute, as Real Madrid ran out 2-0 winners. No winners there either.

That means the winner of First Goal Season Five is...

It solidified 2nd place ahead of @Bluebird Hewitt, and @Rucksackfranzose close behind them too. @Viva la FCB fell just short of the 500-point mark whilst @Tommy battled hard to catch-up.

  6. Something seemed up with him in the last few months of the season. Whether it was being played out of position or head was elsewhere, something was amiss. Reckon they'd do well to be shot of him while he still has some monetary value as opposed to leaving on a free, and re-invest in better players across the squad.

  7. If Eze leaves the Eagles...

Crystal Palace will move for Leeds attacker Crysencio Summerville if they lose Michael Olise or Eberechi Eze this summer.

Palace have long-standing interest in the Dutchman, who scored 20 goals and registered nine assists in the Championship this season. And he remains on their radar, though sources only anticipate the Eagles to swoop if one of their star men are sold.

Liverpool too, have scouted the ex-Feyenoord man and there is a chance he could be sold before June 30 when Leeds will submit their financial records.

The 22-year-old is valued at around £30m and Daniel Farke's side may be forced to cash in due to Financial Fair Play regulations after missing out on promotion following defeat to Southampton in the Championship play-off final.

He is right though, the North (particularly the North West) is the capital of English football. The Midlands/South is a massive step down in terms of history, fanbase etc.

    Further to the point then.

Two northern teams got relegated last year. If they were so good and better, why didn't they stay up?

Or maybe it's not actually to do with location or geography of the teams and there's differing reasons for the diminishing quality of the league.
