Apparently the red dotted line is supposed to be drawn down from Mane's most advanced body part that he can play the ball with. It's coming down from the outside of his elbow unless you do some serious Matrix analysis on the perspective of the angle of the camera. Very odd decision indeed. Black is Mane, yellow is Mina. They do account for the perspective of the angle of the camera when working out offsides, which obviously they should. Struggling to see what the objection is here

They showed the camera angle they were using and they should make the decision based on that. Drawing imaginary lines on the pitch to justify a bullshit decision just doesn’t wash with me or 99% of the football watching population.
Subscriber RandoEFC+ Posted October 17, 2020 Subscriber Posted October 17, 2020 While we keep arguing about anatomy, I'm going to give us some credit on a few points even though I don't think we were anywhere near our best today. Godfrey did really well at right back. Didn't notice Coleman's absence in the second half like I feared we would. James Rodriguez is a top player who has already proven himself in this league. His delivery for the first goal, his cross field ball to Digne setting up the first Calvert-Lewin chance that should have been a goal, his cross to Richarlison when he hit the post, his ball through to Digne to set up the second goal. If people want to keep cherry picking periods of his time at Real Madrid and Bayern to discredit him then fine but he'll carry on delivering the goods and you'll have to admit you were wrong eventually so you may as well just get on board now. Calvert-Lewin has now scored in all 5 league games this season as well as a casual hat trick in the League Cup against West Ham. It's been ages since there was an iteration of Everton who have the backbone to come back twice after falling behind in the derby. We got lucky yes, but another year we would have lost anyway so fair enough to this team on that count.
Harry Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 I take the point that rules have been followed. But I would question the repeatability of that offside decision... If you play that event to 5 separate officials using the same var technology would they all give the same decision, offside 5 times out of 5? I doubt it. For me it seems we've gone from having no technology at all to now pretending the technology is 100% accurate and has no errors, nor any need for margins of uncertainty when overturning decisions.

If you judge it off the camera angle you're going to get countless decisions wrong. The lines are there to determine the players' positions relative to each other and the goal line (and there's actually a fair amount of maths and geometry that goes into them, it's not just freehand) If you and "99% of the football watching population" are going to kick off about it because you don't understand how perspective works, I can't help you
Subscriber Dan+ Posted October 17, 2020 Subscriber Posted October 17, 2020 The Premier League is all about manufactured controversy so it's no surprise VAR is used to this effect.

It depends what angle they have. It didn't look offside to me but I'm assuming they have another angle. Also they don't tend to overturn it unless they are shore so I would imagine you would get it ruled out more times than not.

I know what you mean about the maths involved. The lines are there to determine of you are offside. Which is much more accurate than the naked eye

Yeah your lot played well and based on that I think you should be hoping to push the top six, even challenge for top four this season. Pleased with our response after last time out though. Of course, we looked dodgy at the back at times without Van Dijk and Alisson but I think we showed the other week was absolutely a one off/freak. Just get Alisson back asap. Also hope Van Dijk isn't out for too long. I fear a few weeks out looking at the challenge though
Rick Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 Thiago was immense today, ran the midfield for us and allowed Henderson to push forward a bit more. Van Dijk going off was horrible, hope it’s not a bad one although I’m not that hopeful. Those kind of injuries always end up being bad. Trent was at fault for both goals, he allowed the cross in so easily from the right. So casual in closing down, really pissed me off. He’s going to have to improve in defence or be moulded into a midfielder cause he can’t continue to make those mistakes.

He has still only just turned 22. Who knows how he'll evolve over the next few years but as it stands, he gives the team so much in an attacking sense from the right that any talk of a move onto midfield is silly.
Guest Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 @Burning Gold I think the premier league have to take responsibility though. They should come out and explain the maths behind it so people understand it better rather than let pundits who dont understand it explain it. Mark Chapman is the only pundit who seems to get it. I did see a video one where a maths student explained it abit so I'm sure they could
LFCMike Posted October 17, 2020 Posted October 17, 2020 Richarlison is one of the biggest cunts in the league btw

Compared to other derbies where we had no ambition or ability to attack then yeah in that sense it's the best game we've given you for a while. We weren't that sharp though, got overrun in midfield for a lot of the first half. Allan and Doucoure seemed to improve after half time and we managed to get control of the game for a bit until the Salah goal. I thought we were done at that point but a good goal to scrape the point. How high we can aim depends really on how much the likes of Man Utd and Spurs have their shit together for the rest of the season. I can't see us getting near you or Man City. Chelsea will probably cruise past us at some point as well. After that, there are a lot of teams who could go one way or another including us.

He has, but do you not think that his lack of closing down crosses into the box has become an issue? It’s very easy for wide players to get a ball in when up against him, he doesn’t make much of an effort to stop it.
