So if I read it correctly, the fastest driver in Qualifying today will be considered pole-setter of Sunday race, but it's only for statistics, and it's still the sprint race that'll decide the grid for Sunday race, so the official pole-setter might not be the actual pole-setter. Gotcha.

F3 practice was a complete chaos with cars sliding out everywhere, and F2 practice has just been postponed and will have to be rescheduled.

So the pole sitter isn't actually the pole sitter, but statistically they are the pole sitter but will not sit on pole?

Exactly! You got it! xD

Try to look at the sprint race as adding an extra third or so onto the start of the race distance with a guaranteed red flag at the end of that extra distance. It helps with the pole position thing too!

It's just unnecessarily stupid and confusing, whichever way you put it.

F3 cars have dried the track out quite nicely. Looking like a straight up dry qualifying for F1 unless it rains again (40% chance).

Mercedes struggling again but they get out of Q1 in 12th and 15th. Lewis only 0.004s ahead of Tsunoda 😬. Ocon out with both Alpha Tauris and Williams. Latifi had another spin during the session on at out lap while Albon's car decided to just disintegrate earlier in qualifying.

Red flag, Sainz has binned it. Celebrating his two-year contract extension by self-destructing his way into becoming a number-two driver for the rest of the year.

Now it's raining, meaning the next 10 minutes will be a waste of time. The bottom five, Russell, Schumacher, Hamilton, Zhou, Stroll are likely out. Shame for Zhou who was rapid in Q1. Q3 for Vettel and Aston Martin...

Just seen a clip of Russell's porpoising. At what point does that just become too dangerous?!

Nice, a bottled start for Max but managed to make it right. It looks like RB are suddenly better in terms of tyre degradation. Will be interesting to see how it plays out tomorrow...

P8 and P10 tomorrow for the Haas boys. Not bad!

Also a nice recovery drive from Carlos.
