Interesting bit of news I've read. Football Manager 2018 (most likely the Touch version) is heading to Nintendo Switch. No release date, pricing information or if it's digital or physical copies though.

Ended up buying it in the end, even if it was overpriced at £30. Just having it on the Switch alongside Mario Kart is a dream. Not 100% optimised when docked though.

I don't even play 18, I'm on FM 17 because the match engine on the new one is broken beyond belief.

17 has its flaws but it was as close to the FM 13 and 14 match engines which were pretty good. Lots of counter goals but I prefer that over too many crosses or ball over the backline.

Anyways, I'm with Nurnberg and have had a solid start to the league. Using a 4-3-3 with the DM's and wingers and its working quite well. Ishak is my forward and since I tweaked the tactic slightly, he's been banging them in.

October 2nd for me and only 1 loss away to Hannover.

I must say the team briefings and match engine have really left me struggling this game. If it gets any more detailed I'm converting to the touch version which had trebled in terms of detail and enjoyment from what I've been told.

Glad it's not just me that thinks FM18 is sadly pretty awful. Not finished one "proper" save on it, just don't like it at all.

I could be wrong here but I swear you were one of those calling me out for that! I do agree though I just don't like it. I'm happy on 17.

I don't actually mind the transfers and detailed system. What I hate is that its way too slow for my PC and the match engine is horrific.

Thanks mate

People gave up too early on 18 IMO although after giving it chance after chance after chance it is shit.

I found the match engine appalling, the scores unrealistic (my first three games were something like 6-0, 4-4 and 7-3 with a pretty steady formation) and there was just that bit too much to handle. I thought fundamentally there was a lot I didn't like about it, the kind of things that wouldn't get better with time.

17 isn't perfect but it's got a good balance.

From what people are saying the Nintendo Switch version (FM Touch) is far more enjoyable. I think I'm going to wait until all the reviews come out before commiting to a game next season.

I don't think they'll turn their back on the new match engine or the build up because it's more 'life like'.

The Touch version (which is also on tablets) is pretty much the 'Classic' version (ie. more streamlined and is more like it was originally, though still has a fair amount of detail to the point that it's not too streamlined like the mobile version.

I haven't really had a chance to play much on the Switch yet, but it looks good and runs fine, if more optimised for it handheld than as a console game (when docked, it pretty much blows it up to the point that some of the writing goes off the sides). Still, having it alongside Mario Kart is a dream. :D

I honestly can't get back into FM. Every save I start I can't make it past the first season as I have become shit at the game.

If I was bad before, I am even worse now. I do hope to get back into it sometime soon, as I do love the game but I'm finding it difficult. Even on 17.

You couldn't do that on any version.

HAHA, true, but every 5 saves I made it past the first season at least once. Now I'm struggling to do it in 20.

I'm taking a looooooong break from FM. Forget about it for a while so that when I go back it's all fresh.

Played it for four/five years solid now and it's losing its enjoyment.

As a player since 2002 this version feels like a real step back. I thought they nailed it a couple of years ago and now it's gone too detailed.

Back in 2004 a simple WWE Manager game was released called EWR with eleven simple drop down tabs for each show. Each show took a 15 maximum minutes to make and it encompassed everything enjoyable about creating a wrestling product (sign wrestlers, negotiate a wage, create gimmicks, cope with injuries, keep workers happy etc). Two years later EWR was renamed TEW, you had to plan 2/3 hour shows by the minute, you had negotiate TV contracts in every country, you had to choose specific venues for your show, you had to consider who was popular in each part of america, you had to negotiate contracts which included market percentages and other confusing stuff. Honestly a week would take you four hours. Completely killed the enjoyment.

FM has done something similar on a smaller scale with briefings, the match day experience and new scouting system. It makes you wonder what will happen next year.

Never got round to the new version. Sounds like I made the right choice...

Read the last few pages and I'm thinking the same. I've always kept playing FM17 and really enjoyed it, I was thinking once exams were by I'd upgrade, but I doubt it now.

FM17 was the first one I really got into since FM12. I've never really been one to get the new game every single year because I'm the sort of nobhead who plays in obscure leagues and even sometimes without the real player names so having up to date transfers doesn't bother me and I'm not spending 40 quid each year for a couple of new tones of voice in player interactions and players coming out as gay.

I love putting these kinds of clauses in to a transfer.

They came in with a suitable offer, I negotiated it by slightly reducing the fee upfront and adding something stupid like this in xD).

Liverpool constantly finish in top 6 so they were never getting relegated

I have a lot of mates who play FM, and I really don't want to take a break from it but I've become really fucking bad at the game that I just can't enjoy it anymore. FM 18 has hugely put me off too. Its terrible this year, I may sound like a broken record but it really has stooped to an all time low.

I keep giving it a shot but more and more I just get tempted to turn off the sackings. Its the only way I can enjoy the game these days.

Yeah I do that too.

The best one is where you sell a player for £1,000,000 (said he's valued at £5,000,000) and put a clause that they have to pay you "X" after one game.

Usually you can mug teams off who aren't thinking things through.

yeah definitely. works most of the time as opposed to trying to up the transfer fee which always gets rejected.

Score five in a game and receive nothing but abuse for it. Shocking and vile.

Just inadvertently enhanced Leicester's reputation as shithouses in the Checkatrade Trophy by naming Eldin Jakupovic, Matty James, Demarai Gray, Marc Albrighton and Shinji Okazaki in the U23 side at Morecambe, with Okazaki scoring two in a 4-0 win.

Good man. It's where we want to be as a club.
