The 36 teams will be manually drawn and then automated software will digitally draw their eight different opponents at random, determining which of their matches will be at home and which ones away. Each team will face two opponents from each of the four pots, one at home and one away. Teams cannot face opponents from their own association, and can only be drawn against a maximum of two sides from the same association

I was hoping bodo glimt from Norway would get through but they didn't. I became interested in them just because they're name sounds like something from star wars. They were actually in the Norwegian second division and now they have one a couple of Norwegian league titles. What's nice is they have done it without outside investment. They're not like a man city they are a proper football club who have had a structure which has made them successful without loads of investment

Yeah I was surprised to see them lose out last night. They seemed to have decent chances as well to at least score 1 goal.

Does anyone understand how the draw works because I haven't got a clue? I'm not sure if you play teams from other groups or something?

You play two from each pot. 1 home and 1 away. For example, Arsenal could end up away to Real Madrid and home to PSG from pot 1. Juventus home and Benfica away from pot 2 and so on. You can only play a maximum of two teams from the same country and none from your own.

I feel a bit for Villa fans so far. Their away games being Leipzig, Young Boys and Brugge probably aren't the European tour they were envisioning. At least they've got Bayern and Juventus coming to Villa Park. Drawing Celtic isn't that exciting though xD.

From their perspective though they've got big boys coming to play them at home but they've got relatively easy away games - so decent chance of going through to the next round while also playing against some big sides early.

Yeah it's a good combination. They're bound to play a bigger elite side if they qualify for the knockouts.

People won't like the format, probably because they don't like change, but I'm open minded about this. Let's be honest, the group stages in this competition were boring. So many dead rubbers and you knew the top two in most groups before they were played. Aside from the fact it's about more money with the extra games, I think it will mean less meaningless games, top teams less assured having to play two pot one teams and it also probably gives the teams who would normally be the whipping boys in a group of four a chance.

I quite like the look of the draw, possibly because it's new and a bit different. I'm not keen on two extra games compared to the old format, whilst clubs have forced the end of FA Cup replays and managers will moan about too many games or their half a billion pound assembled squad being tired barely a few months after they've spent their summer's ripping people off in America.

Difficult to judge exactly, but surely the draw gives Villa the best chance they could have hoped for to make it to the knockout stage. 24 of the 36 have a play off or straight to last 16 round. Feels like the new format has on one hand robbed us of visiting a Bayern or a Juve. But also perhaps saved us from having to go to both. And giving a better chance to reach a big 2 leg tie.
