Matthijs de Ligt - Juventus Complete Signing of Dutch Defender

At the end of the day (boy do I dislike that cliché, but it's true), it is indeed all down to the players. There are so many stories to cite here that explain this to perfection but I'll use a recent and very mediatic story which proves players use agents as much as agents use players to make themselves even richer, quicker.

Two summers ago Barcelona went in hard for Marco Verratti of PSG who desperately wanted to join the Spanish outfit. I'm going to cut the story short and to the crux of the debate so as to not wander down various important but negligent avenues right now...

Verratti used every single method available to him to push Paris Saint-Germain into a forced sale but because it was Barça involved and because the owners of PSG despise everything about Barcelona (that's another story), the French club wasn't going to budge and they made it clear to Verratti that he would be honouring his contract right to the last millisecond by using the law.

Verratti's agent at the time was Donato di Campli who had shadowed him since an early teenager throughout his career. Di Campli even went public with sensationalist statements to the media like this one; "Marco is the prisoner of the Emir and the prison is filled with gold to entertain the innocent."

Now I'm gonna skip tons of really interesting and valuable detail which gives us insights into all of this just to get to the point which you guys are discussing.

Once Marco Verratti KNEW 100% that PSG weren't kidding and that there was absolutely no way for him to get the move he so wanted, he changed agent.

He didn't change agent because he was dissatisfied or angry at how Donato di Campli had failed in executing the move. He also didn't change agent for the reasons PSG leaked via German sources so as to mislead with a story that the club had placed the blame on the agent for Verratti's subsequent dissent and "cry for freedom".  Barcelona don't pay agents (apart from one notable infamous incident concerning ex-Barça President, Sandro Rosell and the Neymar transfer).  So there was nothing in it from a spectacular sense for Di Campli.

Curiously it was Carlo Ancelotti in an interview for SKY Italia that let the cat out of the bag where before Verratti changed agent, he said this;

"Marco won't get his move because I know how PSG work. This story will now turn into how Verratti will manage to negotiate an even bigger deal. He already did this twice while I was there."

What did Marco Verratti do?

He dumped Donato di Campli for Mino Raiola.

Why?

Well now it was time to negotiate his happiness again and the "Emir" was happy to comply. Verratti employed the best man to get footballer's a king's ransom and at the same time line his own pockets with solid gold, not nickel.

So indeed... Players use agents and agents use players so they can all get even more perversely richer quicker.

There are no ethics here, there is no love for club or anything of the sort in any spectrum that aligns itself with moralistic logic.

Matthijs de Ligt hasn't said a word, he has let his agent design the whole story and at no point has he even managed to get his agent to stop Juve trying to haggle a cheaper transfer fee that his supposedly beloved club Ajax had previously agreed on.

de Ligt deal now has been agreed, 70 million plus add ons, he has been left behind from the Ajax training camp in Austria to complete the transfer.

Yep, Juve. They’ve stumped up the cash finally. But the story has cost them €81m including Raiola’s €11m bonus.

Still waiting for the official statements from buth Ajax and Juventus.

I think the hold up is that Ajax want to buy Kean, so not sure if its going to be in the deal or not.

Juventus' wage bill must be ridiculous.

Not too shabby from what's indicated but you'd then have to go take a look at someone like us and then things start to look a bit ... loopy.

Even City have a decent average for the year-to-year distribution

Add Ramsey and Rabiot to that. Two free transfers who will have high wages. Ramsey was reported to be at least 300k a week if I remember correctly.

Still a hold up with the transfer due to Ajax trying to do a deal regarding Moses Kean and also regarding Raiolas payment of 15%, on how the payment will be made to him, Juventus want to pay him in stages but Raiola seems to have won and will get a his payment in full.

Will he even start? I mean atm Chiellini and Bonnuci look solid still?

Midfield three will probably be Pjanic as the holder, Rabiot/Matuidi as the aggressor, and Ramsey the attacking minded.

He will play 100% he only wanted to join a club where he be a first team player, so there must of been an agreement,  I can really see this move failing for 2 reasons,  the Dutch do not settle well in Italy and the style of play will be so different to what he was educated.

Mane and Alisson are quite cheap. Bet they also have goal and clean sheet bonuses that aren't included there.

Doesn't Raiola have a good relationship with United too? I seem to remember reading about it years ago and in particular with Mourinho?

No he doesn't have any relationship with Mourinho, Raiola only done deals as Man Utd signed Lakaku, Zlatan and Pogba but Raiola was only involved because he represents the players.

Raiola's whole business model is to get young footballers mainly Dutch on his books and forces them to Italian clubs anyway possible, that is the majority of his business as he gets huge finders fees from the presidents of the clubs, again mainly with Juventus but in the past he had a deal with Ac Milan in the 90's.

So you want them to reach the level of Robertson & TAA even though you think they're overhyped.

Doesn't that mean you believe in their hype as well?
