  1. Ones a Faravahar, like this: the meaning there is that I’m Persian. One’s the town hall of Hamilton Square at Birkenhead, I got that a few weeks before I left the UK to have a tattoo representing my hometown and where I’m from. On my left arm there’s this stylized design I had done that has my 2 cats incorporated into it - I consider that just one tattoo. I might add to it and make it a sleeve later, that’s the plan anyways. But that one symbolises that… I like my cats I’ve also got a Liverbird cos I’m basic. I guess that ones got meaning too. And the other one is a cool looking skull with swords that was my first tattoo and I got that because I thought “that looks cool”

  4. Well I've been prescribed meditation for ADHD. Unfortunately I was misdiagnosed for years. It happened because when I was assessed years ago I wasn't asked how I acted when I wasn't anxious or depressed. This meant that the symptoms were attributed to anxiety and depression as they cause concentration issues and other issues similar to ADHD. However after an assessment I was asked how I acted when I wasn't anxious or depressed and although not as bad the symptoms are still there. After seeing two doctors and 3 assessments it was concluded that I have inattentive ADHD which is normally just called ADD as I'm not hyperactive. The medication works within an hour and I can already feel the difference. So hopefully I can start to progress now.

  6. Klaus Allofs' contract extended for three more years. I heard they are also negotiating with Thioune, to prematurely extend his contract as well. I've read that they want Allofs and Thioune to become the faces of Fortuna for the future. I'm more than okay with that.

  7. Oil futures created poverty for sure, but publicly trading stocks doesn't I don't think, just as @Dr. Gonzo says, it does create wealth inequality.

  10. I think that's a big oversimplification. The stock market doesn't create poverty through what you've just described - because even if companies weren't publicly traded, they'd still owe the same fiduciary duties that are owed to shareholders now to their shareholders. You don't need to be a publicly traded company to have shareholders... You can argue that greed coupled with these fiduciary duties can create poverty, when companies have massive profits and then take that windfall and buy up more of their own stock to inflate the price of the stock for their shareholders - rather than invest that money into the workers that keep that company running... that's bad for the workers but good for anyone who has an ownership stake in the company. But it's not really the stock market causing that, is it? Because those duties would still exist if there were no stock market, at least under UK corporate law I believe @Inverted probably knows better than I do. A strong stock market typically creates more wealth inequality because richer people are more likely to own more stock (or own stocks in general). And in times when the market is shit, especially in times like these where there's cost of living crises around the world... yeah, if you don't have the extra money to spend on buying stocks that are likely going to keep dipping in the foreseeable future while the economy is taking a shit... you're not going to be able to reap the benefits of buying in a down market as much as people who aren't anywhere near as affected. I think it's easy to conflate the stock market with greed because we're talking about massive corporations and companies - those are basically synonymous with greed. And we're talking about the finance industry, which is greedy and generally corrupt. And the stock market definitely gives an advantage to the wealthy over the non-wealthy because... well it's all about money, isn't it... and they've got more money to fuck around with in the stock market. But at the same time, trading stocks has never been more accessible to people generally - so it's not just "a game for the rich." They've got the upper hand sure, especially in a cost of living crisis. Especially over the people who are living pay period to pay period, so they can't even build up a savings... let alone funds for investing... but if you're able to build up even a bit of savings in tough economic times and haven't thought about investing while the market is generally bad... I think it's a mistake to not learn about investing and trying to make that money grow over time. The internet has proven to be a great leveler at getting the non-elite into investing. There's also a lot of shareholders that are inclined to care about ethics, to the point where there's no a metric that people grade companies based on their ESG (environmental, social & governance) scores - which is mostly based off sustainability and ethics. Other than that, I think what could be done is the laws could change that would mean corporations need to have an ethical duty to society as well as to their shareholders. But that also seems difficult to really enforce, so I have no idea how that would work out.

  12. Honestly don't remember... it was a very primitive search engine we used when we got internet in '97 or so. We spent the entire weekend looking up random things in awe of every result we'd get. It will either have been Altavista or a crappy Dutch website called Startpagina. There was another Dutch search engine called Ilse but that came later and I never used it much. I know we had Netscape Navigator as our browser, so maybe we used some kind of integrated search engine it had.

  13. Well are you looking at new SL1200s or the original model run from 78-10? The originals should be $300-$500 second hand. It is one of the best selling TTs of all time, you can’t not find them. There are other manufacturers, Pioneer, Sony, U-Turn, Reloop, TEAC. Keep in mind, you will probably have to purchase a phono-preamp as I think the LP60 has a built in phono. Also take into account the usability, some very good sounding TTs have stripped out features, if you like to play a lot of 33s and 45s keep in mind some TTs require manually switching the motor speed as opposed to pressing a button. https://www.ebay.com/itm/204213984559?epid=154293257&hash=item2f8c1a1d2f:g:XckAAOSwr3djwMfI&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4OkKja4uJKwoXdoN8iND7940CE9AggX59smroE8JMrjnP%2BB3iG4DsbLgKpodNGxsyhmFu4c5Yx1b70XsDAWGx65YFdzUC8laoiEvob%2Btehm4oGhykiCXu4z0m%2B0cDOLKtJlvFvQOGn0YCdapAFFsH2UHHENqWrpOKndgY8gnqy83R8hHppLJjO8ds%2FzYD8icIYyZ4ZaiF%2B4S9gTIMmtR4klQng7CYkFGC6k8wuOZ8hcZklYzfCMg4TwAc6ewqTPIsgqy%2Bw1Aa0GQ0fK6p29H%2B2IusQfmoVQ%2FjqOJhh5W3XOQ|tkp%3ABk9SR4q1j8W1YQ

  16. It's an art form mastered over many years of using vinyl records... extra brownie points for getting it just between the track you want to play and the one that's just finished on an album. Now that's a skill!

  17. Dropping the needle is scary the first time but the needle is designed to make contact to the vinyl, so you'd have to be pretty silly to damage the needle and the vinyl. It's pretty easy to do as well, just lower it slowly with a finger, the needle will catch the vinyl and just follow through and keep lowering that finger. You'll know if you fucked up because of the immediate sound feedback. It's so simple it is one mechanical movement of the arm. I wouldn't even bother with an automatic arm, it's remarkably easy to drop the needle into the blank spots between tracks and start playing a record at any song you wish. If you have a quality hi-fi system and listen to a lot of records don't bother with an automatic. It's a trade off between convenience and audio fidelity. You're flush with options, personally I love my antique Technics SL1200. Who knows how many people have used it during it's near forty year life? Doesn't matter because it is indestructible, I could probably throw it out my second story window and it'd be fine. Buy a manual, impress your friends, scare your wife away from the TT so she won't play her shitty music.

  22. I can understand why there is an overiding feeling Man Utd might turn City over. City's performances have been pretty middling recently and that Southampton result was coming for a while. Man Utd have been on a good run of late. Confidence is high. Rashford's on fire. But those teams were Forest, Wolves, Bournemouth, Everton and Charlton, 4 of which were at home. Can't get too carried away with that. Beware the wounded animal. There will be some people writing City off this weekend, very very dangerous I feel.

  25. I can't see us winning all 4 but 1 out of the 4 would be nice whatever, all we need now is a top striker in the mould of Ruud van, Berba etc and we could be in the business, early days yet but we are looking good and I bet there are clubs out there would love a Verane, Casemiro and Bruno type player in their teams not to mention the others.

  26. This. Nowhere near the same but it's more light entertainment and if anything makes me feel better seeing people who big themselves up no end fail at the simplest of tasks. Haven't agreed with both of the firings so far. But then we're basing it on the edited version as opposed to what Sugar & assistants see.

  32. So far so good. Only drank once since this post was made and fully intend to keep it to once or twice a week. As I've said on here previously I've always loved keeping fit and healthy but during Covid I picked up and habit of drinking sporadically through the week. Not excessive but enough to slow me down and discourage me from exercising as often as I'd like. At 41 you don't need much reason to swerve exercise so picking up a shit habit was never going to help.

  34. I think he thought of himself as mostly a studio musician tbh, even though he was famous around the world and certainly toured. He left the Yardbirds because he hated touring and wanted to spend more time making music in the studio. The guy is nothing short of an absolute legend. Rock, blues, jazz, pop, metal... I'm sure there's more - the guy was a multi-genre musician, which is I think maybe not-so-rare nowadays (especially for studio guys), but he's remarkable in that basically every genre that he played in he's considered an influential guitarist. Pretty sad how he died, tbh. Apparently if you get a bacterial meningitis infection... it doesn't take a whole lot of time to either completely incapacitate you (sometimes permanently) or kill you. So people were saying they'd seen him not too long ago and he was in great health and he seemed nowhere near death, apparently he'd just finished touring (with Johnny Depp... of all fucking people ) and now he's suddenly gone. Pretty massive loss for the music world, and for the guitar world in particular.

  37. I've largely been sympathetic toward Harry and Meghan but sick of hearing about it all now. Nobody is coming off well with each new revelation. I haven't read the book and won't be but obviously all of the noise on social media is basically impossible to avoid. I know the sly briefings from Buckingham et al have continued a bit since they moved to America but it does really seem like they still had the opportunity to go away and get more or less forgotten about if that's what they wanted, and it's much more from their side now that they've dragged it all back up and drawn attention to themselves again. It's becoming a real tedious psychodrama and I don't think I can sum it up better than my original comment. Nobody is coming out of it looking good anymore whether it's mud slinging or "dignified silence". Why the fuck am I even breathing life into it anyway? They have no more to do with me than the next family down the road having a domestic.

  38. Week 17 Results Gillingham 0-1 Leicester Lyon 2-1 Metz St Mirren 1-1 Hearts Villarreal 2-1 Real Madrid Juventus 1-0 Udinese Macarthur 2-0 Newcastle Jets Hartlepool 0-3 Stoke Fenerbahce 0-3 Galatasaray AC Milan 2-2 Roma Atletico Madrid 0-1 Barcelona Round-up Good to be back after the winter break, and the table remains fairly close especially at the top after some good scores. Top score came from lower down, though, as @Pyfish scored 17 points. @nudge got 16 and remained in 4th, while @The Liquidator overtook @Bluebird Hewitt and @CaaC (John) swapped places with @Rucksackfranzose. @N U F C cut my lead down to 3 points...
