carefreeluke Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 A topic for Arctic Monkeys chat. To help start the discussion, how would you rank their albums? Here's mine from best to worst. 1. Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not 2. Suck It and See 3. AM 4. Favourite Worst Nightmare 5. Humbug 6. Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino Their albums tend to really divide opinion so I imagine we will get a lot of different answers. I've put Suck It and See at 2nd which a lot of people probably won't agree with for example.
Danny Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 Not really a fan of their music after the first two albums

By a country mile. So many songs on there that are so good and easy to listen to. My favourite probably being: The View From the Afternoon (great video as well) Favourite Worst Nightmare probably comes in 2nd.
Danny Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 I just think everything after those first two albums is generally average, the first two were generationally defining

If you told me back in 2006 that these guys were going to make a sci-fi psychedelic pop concept album I'd call you crazy but it's a beautiful evolution to witness. (this is coming from someone who used to be obsessed with their older stuff) 2 - Humbug - Produced by QOTSA's Joshua Homme so it's no surprise I fell in love with the heavy psychedelic/stoner sound in some tracks. Wish they had stuck with this sound for another album. 3/4 - Favourite Worst Nightmare / Whatever People Say I am, That's What I'm Not - Toss up between the two. Full of classics that I enjoy to this day. 5 - Suck It and See - Some of my favourite tracks by them are in this one (Love is a Laserquest and Piledriver Waltz) but seems a bit lacking overall compared to others. Alex was in a weird phase. Not a bad album though. 6 - AM - Bland album. I don't get it.
Moderator Tommy Posted May 13, 2020 Moderator Posted May 13, 2020 Always liked them. I don't know all of their stuff, but always liked their stuff I occasionally stumbled upon. Used to be obsessed with this song.
Rick Posted May 15, 2020 Posted May 15, 2020 ‘Tranquillity Base...’ really grew on me after a few listens. Four out of Five is a top ten Arctic Monkeys song. Don’t get the hype over AM either, three or four good songs and that’s it.

Subscriber JoshBRFC+ Posted May 22, 2020 Subscriber Posted May 22, 2020 Their debut is a classic. After that i only liked a few songs on each album.

I love Four Out of Five and put that song up there with their best but that list would be of decent length. The rest of the album I still can't get into and I've given it various attempts over the years. I want to like it but I can't get into it still, maybe one day it will click who knows. On the topic of their best songs, what's your top ten?

On the topic of their best songs, what's your top ten? Totally get it. Took me a while for it to click. I put that video here because I think understanding what the album is about helps. It's like watching a movie when I hear it now, but yea, it's not going to be for everyone. I've read someone describe it as a glass of Whiskey and I totally agree. It's in a league of its own for me now. Difficult to do a top 10 but first of all, I have to say the album I keep going back to the most is his solo - submarine. Might be Alex's best work but let's put that aside for this. 1 - Only Ones Who Know 2 - Love is a Laserquest 3 - Pretty Visitors 4 - Star Treatment 5 - That's Where You're Wrong 6 - One Point Perspective 7 - No. 1 Party Anthem 8 - Crying Lightning 9 - TBHC (title track) 10 - Despair ITDL Pardon the lack of old tracks but most of them are way too overplayed in my mind.
Spike Posted May 30, 2021 Posted May 30, 2021 I love how on the first album Alex Turner talks about and takes the piss out of people that are 'from Rotherham not new york city' and now he is exactly that.
carefreeluke Posted May 30, 2021 Author Posted May 30, 2021 She looks as if she's blowing a kiss at me And suddenly the sky is a scissor...
carefreeluke Posted November 21, 2021 Author Posted November 21, 2021 I'll be listening to this song for the rest of my life. Oh the boy's a slag, the best you ever had...

Devil Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Got two tickets for Old Trafford cricket ground for next June, looking forward to going but I really hope they pick their set list with the majority of their classics than their latest stuff. I don't mind the odd new song as that's my queue to get to the bar.
