Seems a little harsh. They're still within striking distance of top four, and you can't really account for Wolfsburg and Frankfurt doing so well.

You can account for only 8 points from the last 9 matches and a well deserved 0-3 loss to Hertha BSC, though.

There was a Europa League advert recently I saw and it was quite bizarre, it was basically a minute feature on Bayer Leverkusen, giving some message about "people will write us off because we're a team of kids but they have no idea what we're capable of".

By this point however, they had already gone out of the Europa League to Young Boys and now they've sacked their manager. It's not really worked.

Their recent form has not been good at all. They have been knocked out of both the Europa League and the DFB Cup this season, by teams that a club of their stature would usually expect to beat. As for making next season's Champions League, well it looks highly unlikely. Not only are 4th placed Frankfurt 7 points ahead of them in the table, but 5th placed Dortmund are also 3 points ahead of them and they will be battling hard for a Champions League place. With the amount of money that Leverkusen spent in the summer and during the winter break, much more was expected of them.

Sure, injuries to certain important players hasn't helped their cause, but that can't wholly excuse some of their recent results. Losing all of their last 5 competitive matches on the trot, was the straw that broke the camels back. Bosz's attacking style of football was exciting to watch at times, but I would hope that Leverkusen's next long term manager, would be one who puts more emphasis on defence, more so than Bosz did.

Easy to forget they were unbeaten in their first 12 matches and were top of the table prior to losing to Bayern at Christmas, too.  This run they've been on is horrid.
