Cicero
If given the choice between De Jong or Raphinha I'd prefer the former. Think our midfield is in drastic need of an upgrade on Jorginho. Assuming that was part of the negotiations between Laporta and Boehly.
Dave
Well if Chelsea get Frenkie I guess the only logical thing to do is let Conor Gallagher to return to an environment he's comfortable in.

Cicero
What's the situation on this? Have United agreed to pay the 17m in deferred wages that are owed to De Jong? Barcelona really are the biggest bunch of fuckwits about at the moment. 2020 - "Frankie, we need you to take a wage cut but we will pay you back in the future." 2022 - "Frankie, we need you to leave so we can finance our other deals but we can't pay you the deferred wages we still owe you. From what I’ve read and listened to via podcasts, we’ve not budged on the wage deferral money (because we’d be fucking mugs). Barsa have offered around £3million and De Jong wants £10million at least. Maybe we pay him extra in the contract, who know. Maybe it’s bonus related. I think the transfer does happen though. The Express has been relentless saying De Jong won’t agree personal terms. You’re telling me he hasn’t been sounded out in the background? United are fucking terrible at transfers, but that bad? Bluewolf
As I understand it they owe him 17Mill which is why he is refusing to leave, but by not leaving Barca can't bring in the new players like Raphinha so something has to give somewhere... If Barca want him out to do other business then they are going to have to cough up the moolah..

Lucas
Absolute stalemate this one. You wonder just how much longer Man Utd should persevere on this one, particularly as the player really doesn't seem willing to go along with it.

It's clear he doesn't want to join united, don't know why they are trying to sign a player that has no interest in signing for them ..even if Barca manage to force him out he's not going to be happy is he
Redcanuck
I think it's more that de Jong wants to stay in Barcelona , not that he doesn't want to come to United. Barcelona are his dream club, he's just bought a new house there, his wife is happy there, why change sunny Barcelona for rainy Manchester. This situation is complicated as all hell, Barcelona keep buying players 4 or 5 now that they can't register unless they seriously reduce their wage bill. It's not just de Jong they have to move on its 4 or 5 other squad players as well. Then there's de Jong's contract which still has 2 or 3 years to run. Did de Jong deffer salary or restruct his contract? I wonder if Barcelona feel the contract was restructured and the salary is top heavy in the last two years, meaning he only gets the money if he completes the whole contract and they don't owe him any deffered wages? Looks like both de Jong and Barcelona are both playing chicken to see who blinks first. Will de Jong take a massive pay cut to play for his dream club and forget about the £17m in deferred wages or will Barcelona cave at the last minute and pay de Jong a sizable portion of his deferred wages because they can't register Lewandowski or Raphinha? This could very well drag on past the start of the season, I hope not, but who knows.

I am not sure the rumours of Chelsea being interested are real. They could be but I don't think so. They are all coming from one source, the Spanish newspaper Sport, which is just a mouthpiece for Barcelona and Real. Other sources just pick up and pass on the original story from Sport. Barcelona are trying to get United to increase their bid or agree to pay De Jong's deferred salary. Ten Hag has supposed to have been in contact with De Jong and been assured that if he leaves Barcelona, which he really doesn't want to, he will come to United. I can't see United sticking with this so long if De Jong had indicated he dosent want to come to United or that he wanted to go somewhere else if he was to leave Barcelona. It's always a concern when your club is chasing the whole time and then eventually after the long haul either gets their reluctant man or worse the whole thing is just one big massive waste of time.. Even sadder if you finally get him because it won't be because it was something he desired and saw as a challenge, it would be because he was backed into a corner and had his hand forced and nobody wants someone playing for them if their heart is not in it..
