Danny Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Hold on, he wanted more game time so he went to Chelsea?
Cicero Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 OFFICIAL: Aston Villa and #Chelsea have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka. — Absolute Chelsea (@AbsoluteChelsea) August 2, 2022
Reluctant Striker Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Bit of an odd case. He does seem to have potential. Felt like he was keen on doing a Sancho/Bellingham. Then Barcelona, AC Milan & countless others were linked. I don't see this working for him, in terms of any instant improvement in minutes on the pitch. In fact quite the opposite. But good luck to him.
Danny Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Again....he left Villa for Chelsea for playing time?
Cicero Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Bizzare deal. I imagine he'll be sent out on loan or Tuchel promised him an integral role in our midfield.
Reluctant Striker Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Unless he develops into better than anything ever from Villa's youth system, £20m seems good. It's all potential at this stage. And it is very rare Villa get money in for anyone other than 1st team stars. It does at 1st look seem an odd / ambitious choice by him.

Weren't Real and Barca the others interested? Probably sees an easier route to our midfield vs them.
True Blue Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 If we play him i don't mind but we got Gallagher back and we are signing a new midfielder?
Lucas Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Seeing a lot of this lately, kids leaving acadamies for other clubs to get a higher wage. We had it recently with Sonny Perkins leaving West Ham to join us. I think it boils down to the fact youngsters these days aren't prepared to knuckle down and wait for their chance. Far too impatient. Not only that, but they get an early taste of the fame and fortune and are easily seduced, especially with agents in their ear telling them they deserve this and that when they haven't earned fuck all. A club comes in, offers triple or quadruple the meagre wage they are on and they have no hesitation of moving.
Dr. Gonzo Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Weird signing for everyone involved except Villa, tbh.
N U F C Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Clearly just moving for the money. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him shipped out on loan for the next five seasons then sold without making a first team appearance. Makes little sense.
Cicero Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 We aren't under Roman anymore though. We aren't going to spend 20m on a player just to ship him out on loan until the end of time. This is an investment for the future given both Jorginho and Kante are end of contract. Some reports suggesting he'd immediately come into the first team.

Dave Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 It's all a bit odd. He's shown with England U19's he has huge potential but leaving Aston Villa as he wasn't satisfied over his minutes to join Chelsea seems very counter intuitive. You'd think he'd look at going to a side like Dortmund based on the noise him and his agent have made this transfer window. It may be that Chelsea already have a loan move set for him. Either way with a year left on his contract a fee of 20m that I read sounds pretty good on Aston Villa's part regardless of his potential.
Cicero Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Romano saying he’s apparently joining the first team.

Dave Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 Hopefully they do the noble thing and sell Gallagher to an environment where he's previously been comfortable and happy.

Much like last preseason, he just looks awkward in a pivot. He wasn't even tested further forward in Mount's position either which bothered me. Can see us selling him this window or next.
