Most Unsafe You've Felt Within A City?

I've actually been to 6 of the 50 most dangerous cities in the World. Caracas, Rio Branco, Recife, Cancun, Detroit and Salvador (Bahia).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_by_homicide_rate

If you've been to any I'd be keen to know. Despite being to those 6, most of them were very young, but I felt a bit unsafe in Rio Branco which I've been to in 2019. It was the only city I can remember where residents self impose their own curfew. The city was hustling in the day time but by 7 PM everyone was inside, and us as the silly tourists we were kept walking around the town. Mercifully nothing happened to us.

Second time was when my friend brought me here and we waited for a bus for 30 minutes. Do I need to say more after the following picture? xD

I've been to slums, dodgy neighbourhoods, nasty bars and hidden brothels in Asia, yet the most unsafe I felt within a city was walking home in several European cities after dark in the past. The only time where I truly was scared because someone aggressively pestered me happened at 7pm in my hometown when I was waiting for the bus after work.  Go figure.

When I was living in China, my girlfriend took me to meet her parents. Her father was the Deputy Director of sorts of the Communist Party in Shaanxi Provence.

Him and his friends weren't too happy to see me, and were very outspoken about Western Politics and needless to say I was pretty worried that it was going to end poorly.

Luckily things turned around when I told them that I was born in Russia and a Russian citizen, and was lucky enough when one of the commanders there spoke decent Russian and we were able to converse in the language and thus my story was confirmed.

I've been to some rough areas, and seen some crazy things, but something about this experience, and some others in China, just felt different.

My cousin when she was young had the same thing, a burglar went inside my grandmothers old home and while she was in the shower, how fucking convenient.

That must have been quite a scary experience... We were robbed at a holiday cabin in 2009. I didn't feel unsafe though, as they gassed us first, so I slept through the whole fucking thing.

Sounds like an intro of a porn video

Due to football and work I have to go to shitty districts all the time, but I have common sense and do a good job reducing the risk of being mugged or pick pocketed. As a result, I've never been robbed. I am expecting it to happen to me some day, but so far it hasn't happened.

Lima is a dangerous city but we seem to be right in the middle of every list. There are far more dangerous but also far safer. My dad has been robbed at gunpoint as has a few friends though.

Ha - did I not tell you this story?

Oh geez, but yeah, we dated for 13 months, my Dad came to China and met her, as did my Sister, but when we were talking about her family, she just said her Dad worked for the government and left it at that.

Finally when I met him, it was somewhat by accident as we were going to meet her mother, and supposedly her Father was supposed to be out of town. However, her Dad WAS at the house, with his army buddies, playing poker, drinking Bijo, and smoking. Once I realized which one of the uniformed gentlemen was her father, I was shitting bricks.

Needless to say, that was the beginning of the end of that relationship, and it's still the only time a girl's parents (or parent) didn't like me at all, and it was ultimately the reason I was kicked/forced out of China.

Totally sounds like something out of a James Franco and Seth Rogen movie. xD

Cancun's dangerous? xD I never would have guessed - my guess is most places any tourist are going to be there are going to be safe as fuck, because that's how it seems.

I've been to some rough neighborhoods... including #1 on that list, Tijuana (and I've been to Tijuana a lot) and I wouldn't say I really ever felt particularly unsafe in any neighborhood just because it's got a reputation. Have I been drunk in a foreign country and been in situations I find a bit uncomfortable in? Sure - but honestly those weren't in places I'd think are particularly "bad" places.

Myself I dont think Ive ever really been in that kind of situation. Usually the unsafe area's Ive wandered Ive been intoxicated so theres no fear in this dojo.

I dont know if I ever shared this story though before. My brother was robbed at gun point in Brazil, he went in 2014 for the WC. He was there for around a month, month and a half I want to say. He was taking a night bus I believe up to near the amazon area about half way through to watch a few matches and and his bus was pulled over by a car with a guy waving a gun around out the window. The gunmen lead the bus down a side road off the main drag and that was the part he felt mostly unsafe he said because it was about 10 mins down the road. The gunmen boarded the bus but basically just wanted to rob everywhere, a passenger was translating for everyone and roughly what I recall was something along the lines of 'we arent bad men, we just need and want your stuff' etc etc. He lost maybe a 100$ or so cash he had on him and his 20 year old high school sweater they wanted but otherwise everything worked out ok. The sweater he was most upset about as he said it was the only one he brought with him and it was cold xD

I've been in main city Cancun for a Liga Expansion MX game, and yeah it didn't strike me as that safe. Most people go to the beaches outside the city, similar to what people do here in Lima.

I think Cancun's one of the more safe cities in Mexico tbh and you're only in any real danger if you're drug trafficking or hanging around people who are drug trafficking. Most of the murders there in the last 10 years are all cartel related & the city's unique in that there's a pretty large area that's not anywhere residential at all.

General rule of thumb in Mexico is stay away from drugs and people who'd sell you drugs, tbh.

Although if you went to Quintana Roo to see they're side play, I think that's a bad neighorhood.
