... The three foreigners hadn't been forcibly dropped by European law and his every league across Europe may have been affected. I ask this question because France is realising another potentially (and I hate to use the phrase) "Golden" generation. Yes there are foreign imports in Ligue 1 but so many teams field French players, particularly younger home grown players. I honestly don't believe the majority of Ligue 1 would be affected, PSG certainly would.

So think of Premier League and your team, how would they fair with only 3 foreigners in a starting XI,  would your team actively promote youth? One thing is certain, the prices for home grown players would still be astronicmal. I look at Arsenal and ponder whether they could even field a team. Southampton in particular certainly could. How different would the last 20 years of European and world football been?

Schmeichel

Simpson - Morgan - Maguire - Fuchs

Albrighton - James - Ndidi - Mahrez

Vardy - Okazaki

That was our last starting XI with 6 foreigners.

It would be distinctly weakened with home-grown players replacing 3 of those. I think Iheanacho is home-grown?

Albrighton - James - King - Mahrez

I believe you could, so yeah. You could have foreigners on the bench

Torn between filling it with youth or just what's left with the first team squad.

Robles, Holgate, Pennington, Dowell, Sigurdsson, Klaassen, Sandro

Iheanacho would indeed be classed as home grown, he was born in England I believe?

Nigeria but I can't remember how old he was when he came to UK. I think 15 if memory serves me correctly after reading an interview with him when he joined us.

He's eligible ... at least was eligible to play for England which means I'm sure he has dual citizenship

United should be able to field a team from the following; would have to play a few players out of position and recall Sam Johnstone from loan.

Youth: Rashford, Fosu-Mensah, Borthwick-Jackson, Andreas Pereira, Joel Castro Pereira, Axel Tuanzebe, Tahith Chong, Gomas, McTominay, Mitchell.

Senior homegrown players (2017/18) Jones, Pogba, Smalling, Lingard, Carrick, Young, Shaw, Lukaku, Januzaj = 9

Plus: Sam Johnstone and James Wilson currently on loan

Januzaj was sold to Sociedad.

Andreas Pereira has gone on loan to Valencia. Fosu-Mensah is at Palace. Borthwick-Jackson at Leeds.

Forgot about the three foreigners.  I am not all that good at putting line ups together but here goes.

De Gea

Valencia

Jones

Smalling

Shaw

Carrick

Matic

Pogba

Lingard

Lukaku

Rashford

You could still have the likes of Young, Jackson, Tuanzebe, on the bench

Forgot about Januzaj and assume you could bring players back from loan.  Also forgot about the three foreigners which was the whole point of the thread.

My point really is United have no worries on the home grown front.  Would make the team weaker but we could put out a decent team.

true, I think you've still got a strong squad compared to others.

Arsenal would really struggle here, I can't actually pick an starting XI for them

Cech

Bellerin - Chambers -Holding

Ramsey - Coquelin

Walcott - Iwobi - Ozil

Sanchez

Welbeck

That's Bellerin, Sanchez, Ozil as the foreigners.

No shape or organisation to it and very narrow. They'd get overridden so easily. Unless you sacrifice Ozil for Monreal/Kolasinac as a LB.

That's a seriously ropey defence. Little difference to reality really

Unless I'm missing something, they don't have many other homegrown, if any, aside from Chambers and Holding.

They'd be mid table. At best. The same with City.

Coquelin and Iwobi are home grown. Iwobi was born in England too I'm sure.

Oh shit yeah forgot about Cech.

I actually had to check Coquelin and Iwobi - they are classed as homegrown :).

To fix that, I'd swap Ozil for Wilshere. With a squad that weak you'd have to keep Cech in goal.
