Is this like a dark souls game? it's coming to gamepass soon, might give it a try

It is but if you get Lies of P instead I'd recommend trying that. Far more forgiving and definitely a more polished game on first run.

Does it say a lot that I didn't even know there was a showcase or show on? :(

Its gotten rather drab with the gaming scene and if a Doom game was the highlight of a showcase then you didnt miss much honestly.

Apologies this may have been bigger than Doom. I'd say it was bigger.

Yeah I did see that Perfect Dark is back on the radar again. Haven't seen the trailer though. Will watch it afterwards.

EA announced they are shutting down Battlefield 3 and 4 hosting servers from November.   This is an alarmist reaction to the spike in players for BF4 in particular that resulted in poor sales for Battlefield 2142 when Dice did their recent steam sale.    Battlefield 4 has more active players and servers than the new game.    Dice may also shutdown Battlefield 1 which also saw a spike in players.

It looks interesting,  but so many indie survival games never deliver on their promise.

I remember The Day Before. Hyped up for a couple of years. When released it was nothing like the gameplay they were showing. Was a huge flop, luckily I never brought it.

So I've recently started playing Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. I never played the first one. I really don't know anything about Warhammer 40,000, other than the band Bolt Thrower (shout out to @Happy Blue, because death metal) fucking loves Warhammer.

I went into it with no real expectations. My friend who gameshares with me on Xbox (so we trade off who buys games) already bought it and had been pressuring me to play with him... so I got on it with him and at first I thought "this seems like a weird Gears of War clone with more focus on melee combat."

And I still think a lot of my initial thought runs true - it looks, and feels, a lot like a Gears of War game - the biggest differences being less focus on getting behind cover & the melee combat is a lot better. But also... this game is so much better than I could have imagined before I first started playing.

It's such a fun game, it's probably my 2024 game of the year honestly. There's three game modes: the campaign (which you can play solo, or you can play it coop with 2 other people), a separate PvE coop mode (that they're going to be adding more free content for), and a regular PvP multiplayer mode. Each of the three game modes is so fun. I've not had fun like this online in a long time - it reminds me of games from... a long time ago when multiplayer gaming was more consistently fun.

And there's no battlepass. There's no weird shitty loot boxes. They have cosmetic DLC... but any additional story/gameplay DLC will be added as free updates.

There's nothing groundbreaking about the game. It's just a good looking game with good gameplay, 3 game modes for all kinds of different players, that doesn't feel bloated with a bunch of extra crap that's designed to make you spend more money. I really like that and I wish more developers (especially bigger developers) would take a page from this game and just make something that is modern... but fun and simple, with a good amount of content for players, at a decent price.

🤣 I will get around to posting my new Solar guitar soon ...the first space marine still holds up today, played it 3mths ago on my Rog Ally, great game and looking forward to the 2nd one but i always wait for a sale because i'm cheap lol  ..glad to hear it's getting solid reviews, i can see the gears of war resemblance but this is less tactical and more "i'm going to shoot your face off with this big fucking cannon" 😂 when your done with this give the first one a try too

I like the melee combat in it too tbh. A lot of fun, but yeah a lot less tactical than Gears games. Although the Gears single player was always a hell of a lot more tactical than the multiplayer where the meta is getting really good with your shotgun.

Lot of wrap up of what Ive been playing and still currently playing:

Finished Metro Exodus. Playing it for ray tracing alone was worth it, god the lighting was soooo good. Decent enough game play, some genuinely creepy scenes and a really cool setting/world. I quite liked how they did the endings to wrap it all up.

Im about 5 hours into Outer Wilds over a few weeks at this point. Theres just something really charming and intriguing about it, Ill take my time and plot along but I dig it.

Started BG3 over the weekend as well. First introduction to turn based games at all and had a rough time in the first major fight area but Im interested enough to plug along here.

And lastly Nearing the end of Assassin's Creed Mirage on PS5. Ive loved this game, definitely a throw back to the AC's of old in the style, the setting, the simplicity to some degree. Its been interesting enough but Im glad it isnt a 40 hour game as it does get a bit repetitive as alot of old AC games did. They have enough going on and enough contracts and side stuff that I havent felt like im draggin to much as I approach the 20 hour mark here.
