Bayern captain Manuel Neuer is said to have sustained an injury in training ahead of the Bundesliga clash with Schalke on Tuesday night at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen. A statement on the club’s website read: “Manuel Neuer injured his left foot in training on Monday and will miss the match at FC Schalke 04.” The player will undergo a ‘final examination’ on Tuesday, the club added. A report in the newspaper BILD suggests that the Germany international has broken his left foot - just four months after breaking a metatarsal in the same foot in Bayern’s Champions League quarter final loss to Real Madrid. Although the Bayern captain didn’t need surgery at the time, there are suggestions that he may require an operation this time around. Neuer only returned to first team action against Werder Bremen on August 26 - but could now face a further spell on the sidelines, with understudy Sven Ulreich expected to face Celtic in October. Subscriber Viva la FCB+ Posted September 18, 2017 Subscriber Posted September 18, 2017 Was just reading this, they've mentioned if he needs a second surgery we could be looking at 6-8 weeks. Apparently it will be evaluated soon. This would be a big miss, probably the biggest is covering for Boa/Martinez mistakes at the back which only he can do.
TrstnFCB Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 Heard some rumours that Tom Starke may be called back from retirement again. I really hope not. No reason why Ulreich can't cover. He's no Neuer but still a good keeper who would be able to cover us better than Starke ffs.Personally not too worried. Just keep Martinez on the bench.

What if Ulreich gets injured?
Faithcore Posted September 18, 2017 Posted September 18, 2017 Bring back Starke! He's better than Neuer anyway.

nudge Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 I thought it was quite obvious, but now I realise I just have a dirty mind
Dickie Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 I don't know why people are making such a big deal out of it? They still have the best backline in bundesliga, they'll still get through group stage and knockout without any issues, he'll probably be back by then or close to it.

Subscriber Viva la FCB+ Posted September 19, 2017 Subscriber Posted September 19, 2017 Back on track here Surgery successful, expecting a January return.
TrstnFCB Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 What is this thread becoming? Anyway, so after surgery this morning apparently Neuer's officially out until January. I mean it sucks big time but Ulreich is certainly a capable keeper. We have Boateng slowly making his way back into regular action and Alaba should be back within the next couple matches. With Boateng, Hummels, Süle, Kimmich and Alaba available or soon available for selection at the back I'm not too worried. Martinez should absolutely be kept out of important matches though.
Inverted Posted September 19, 2017 Posted September 19, 2017 On paper they should still be strolling the league, but with the issues and drama around the club recently, and Dortmund's form, it would have been a big bonus to have him back.
