I really hope Japan comes out of the blocks and tries to get something out of this game. High time they started playing like they do for the AFC.

level of performances from the African teams has been poor at best. Cant see that changing today against a moderately decent Polish team.

I fancy Columbia to beat whoever they face in the 2nd round from England/Belgiums group, so can see them taking a routine win against Japan

Everyone expecting Senegal to perform well but they will be Cote de I'voire version 2.0, Well known personel on the team who have great individual skills but don't click as a team.

Colombia's anthem has to be one of the best out of all teams this tournament.

Without Italy's entrance, that is possible.

I’d like to see Japa win I just dont think they will.

A strong Japan side would add a nice diversity to the latter stages of the World Cup. In general I’d like to see them progress as they’re just different.

No Okazaki in the first 11?

injured.

What a start! Japan through and Sanchez does his best Luis Suarez impression and deliberately handballs to deny the goal.

Should edit that first post. Their prospects just rose significantly.

But FFS they should have buried that first chance. Thats what Japan just dont seem to get right time and again. Nowhere near clinical enough for the good possession and play, and opportunities they create.

Holy shit.

Straight red in just 3 minutes for Colombia.

What an awful start.
