Yeah, Terence Malick's style is definitely not for everyone, so I can understand that! I personally love it, but if you're looking for action and a rather fast-paced, straightforward story, then Malick's movies are definitely not the best choice Don't think you can even compare it to the war movies like The Longest Day or Battle of the Bulge though, as those two are pretty much detailed accounts of a specific historical battle, whereas The Thin Red Line is more of an introspective and pensive look into broader philosophical themes and ideas, particularly the nature of war, human condition, life and death, creation and destruction, harmony and chaos. I haven't seen a more poetic movie...
