I think it's inevitable the Taliban take over the country again after the West withdraws. Look at how much ground the Taliban gained in recent weeks - and even the taliban were surprised with how quick they were advancing I think it's easy to be worried about what comes next for Afghanistan - because I think we've seen this film before. And yeah, I agree with you - I don't think the lesson was learned the last time with the Soviet withdrawal. Because... think about it - the Taliban are basically an offshoot of the US backing radical militants against the Soviets in Afghanistan. Along with Al Qaeda, who famously became a US enemy after 2001. And now in Syria we see the US (and NATO) is basically acting as Al Qaeda & ISIS's airforce - so we've already come to see the world powers fail to learn from the lessons of Afghanistan in the 80s once before. I'm not sure it's smart to expect them to suddenly learn from past mistakes. But I hope we're wrong.2 points

I'm half English half Iranian - but I think I got the being a cheap arsehole from my very English dad. That's all good to know, thanks - at least the price has gone down significantly. I'd be fine with quarantining... but US companies don't give very much time off a year (which is VERY annoying, tbh) and I don't want to spend most of my time off stuck in a hotel unable to see my family/friends... Probably fucked myself over by not going back home when people were everyone in my office was working from home - I bet I could have pulled that off without too many people noticing I'm in a different country. Although I'd probably be constantly exhausted1 point

I thought you were Iranian and not Scottish. But honestly, you might have a long wait. God knows when they will stop making the tests mandatory. Even if the US becomes a Green list country, you will still be required to take COVID-19 tests from my understanding. So I don't think there's any chance of avoiding paying for the tests any time soon. However, the prices for the tests have significantly decreased, so you won't have to shell out a silly amount of money like I had to.1 point

Ah shit, I'll probably wait for the US to stop being Amber then - I'm a cheap arsehole and don't really want to pay for the tests1 point

There's a pretty large population of black Iranians in the South of Iran and they've been vocal on Instagram & Twitter this year about how Haji Firooz is offensive to them.1 point

That's bullshit though the owner/landlord is named Gerd S. (full surname not disclosed) https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.spox.com/de/sport/fussball/international/spanien/1904/News/gericht-faellt-urteil-ousmane-dembele-muss-fuer-vermuelltes-haus-in-dortmund-strafe-zahlen.html1 point

Apart from the contingent for diplomatic staff all active U. S. military troops have been evacuated from Afghanistan, including the largest Bagram base. Very precarious days ahead for the country and the region. Different Afghan factions, private military contractors, global stakeholders. Immi already said we'll close borders if things go shit. As much as I want to happen otherwise, don't think anyone has learned lesson from last time with the Soviet withdrawal. Hope I'm wrong1 point

I studied law at uni for a bit, but yeah that’s basically the issue. Sexual assault cases are always difficult. In a nutshell, on a moral level he deserves to rot in prison. In a court of law however, due process is everything. Prosecutors fucked that up by granting immunity to Cosby to testify in a sexual assault, he said/she said, civil case. Years later, prosecutors used that same testimony to bring upon a criminal case. Can’t grant someone immunity in a court of law and then back down. That’s the 5th amendment protecting Cosby.1 point

Dembele is a massive douchebag. After seeing in what condition he left the house where he lived in Dortmund, one should rather wonder what kind of shithole does he himself come from and how "advanced" it is. The landlord even had to sue him for 20000 Euro for the damages, and Dembele's agent arrogantly suggested that the landlord should just demolish the house and build a new one instead. Arrogant vile cunts.1 point

Yes, he was at Bremen since 2019 (2 year loan), first in U19 then in U23 last season, and training with the first team he's developing insanely fast, and looks very impressive so far; definitely the most exciting talent for me. With Augustinsson leaving, this should be a great chance for him to make a breakthrough into the first team...1 point

Agreed, especially with the last bit. She kept it civil and respectful and didn't stoop to the level of a quite repulsive individual. She's a great candidate anyway even aside from the Galloway stuff, but it just emphasises the kind of character she is to rise above the divisiveness that was attempted to be caused and it's paid off.1 point

As expected, Kyu-hyun Park's transfer has been finalized. Very excited, hope he gets regular playing time this season and develops further.1 point

I've been following this very unpleasant by-election with some interest. It's been absolutely toxic, that horrid George Galloway strutting around with Laurence Fox and Steve Bannon while claiming to be the real party of the working class, claiming to have Batley and Spen's best interests at heart whilst running on a platform of "vote for me if you want to give Starmer a kicking" so obviously pursuing a national agenda, and stoking up anti-trans feeling in parts of the Muslim community, leading to the Labour candidate Kim Leadbeater, who I believe is a lesbian, being abused on the streets over LGBT+ "propaganda" being delivered in schools, and Labour activists getting attacked and egged on the streets. He's rounded it off by going full Trump and claiming he'll challenge the result of this by-election in the courts. Absolutely horrible man. Somehow, Galloway pulled in 20%+ of the vote, most of which will have come from the 'left-wing', so it really is a great result for Kim Leadbeater and Labour to still get over the line. The Conservative candidate was pretty much invisible throughout the campaign, their approach seemed to be to let Galloway do their dirty work and it nearly came off. Maybe it would have if not for the Hancock affair, and it almost certainly would have if Labour didn't field such a strong and local candidate. A lot will be said by different Labour factions about what the victory and the narrow winning margin means for Starmer's leadership, but it ultimately has to go down as a pretty good success in the face of the Tory march in the North and Galloway's interference. By no means is he out of the woods in terms of getting Labour anywhere near where they should be again but you have to look to find a springboard when you get the opportunity. People will rightly point out that Labour deliberately decided to largely keep Starmer away from front line campaigning unlike Hartlepool, and by all accounts it was Labour's ground game and Leadbeater herself who turned the tide in the last few days, but overall, a win is a win and he has to be happy. What's important after the campaigning on this occasion though, rather than the party politics and Galloway being a cunt, is that the candidate who was decent, showed great dignity in the midst of a toxic campaign and a genuine passion for serving her local area managed to win.1 point

I will hit the big 72 on Tuesday so we had a visit from our daughter and grandson Kaiden because they are both away on a school trip for 3 days and will miss my Birthday but...wee Kaiden in all his grandson wisdom bought me a Man United Lego figure but there was NO WAY in a million years I would try and build that with my fat fingers so he built it up for me and told me to put it in my Man United corner in the bedroom, I obeyed his commands.1 point
