I just realised that when you watch planes taking off in the middle of the night, the blinking red beacons and the white wingtip strobes make it look like Star Wars spaceships. I just watched four planes take off within 15 minutes, and it looked like Razor Crest was being chased by a bunch of X-Wings, followed by Darth Vader's Executor. I bet you're all blown away by this piece of random incoherent observation2 points

This reminded me of our conversation of the Fischer Space Pen and being able to write in zero gravity and upside down. Regardless, the amount of downforce on these cars and the engineering of them in general, is such a marvel. I've gotten more and more into the actual mechanics of the cars and it really is an engineering beautiful. Still, the craziest things I've seen was Mercedes DAS system. I remember the Netflix show about it, and it had Horner and Toto talking about it, and the conversation went roughly like this.. Horner: "Yeah man, I'm just not sure it's legal." Toto: "But it's cool, right?" Honer smiles, "Yeah man, that is cool." I might be off on how I remember it, but really just shows that it's just a bunch of engineers at heart who love and thrive on innovation.2 points

In school I used to have a takeaway every Friday, but knocked that on the head when I moved out. I'll have one every month (or six weeks) now. Before Covid, I'd head to a restaurant every week as a rule, I absolutely love eating out (hehe).2 points

I barely ever have takeaways. Maybe a pizza or a Chinese sometimes, once a month or two, but can just as easily go without it for half a year or so. I do eat in restaurants almost daily though, but mostly fresh fish/seafood or grilled lean meats, soup and fresh veg.2 points

Just Sky Sports. BBC2 show 1 hour highlights in the evening somewhen. BBC do have exclusive radio commentary though on Test Match Special if that's her cup of tea.1 point

Yeah, I remember when Nadal started opening up his tennis centers throughout Spain, RF would also show up and help out. Then RF did some event somewhere in Europe, and Nadal repaid the favor and helped out. Love both of them TBH, and I do think they made each other better.1 point

I’m just a fanboy in general mate hahaha Messi, RF, Lewis etc. I’ve learned to embrace it now Yeah the way he glided across the court and overall style of play is unmatched for me. Absolute legend. And it makes it so much easier that he’s so gracious and humble and genuine. What a man.1 point

I’m just a RF fanboy. His style of play and his personality mixed with his dominance are the reasons why he will always be my .1 point

I was a brilliant runner in school and I always represented the school at various cross country events. We also used to do a competition each term which was called the run walk test, basically it was the 1500 meters around the local streets near the school. It was called the run walk because you could walk if you were a lazy or race if you were that way inclined. Obviously all the lads would get incredibly competitive in the build up each term but it then became even more competitive as everyone wanted to beat me because I'd win it every time. I'd basically perfected the distance and I had a point I'd kick on every time and create a gap they just couldn't close. Every now and then I'd change the kicking point to confuse them but throughout the whole five years I never lost. Mr Wright then approached me to take up the distance in the local school games which I also went on to win as well. At this point I was asked to come down to Sale Harriers to take it up properly but I just wasn't interested and told them I just wanted to play football at weekends. I can remember Mr Wright pushing and pushing me to go but I just basically had no interest at all. I recently bumped into him in our local Supermarket and he told me at the time he was desperate for me to go down to train as he had never seen a kid take to a certain distance as well as I had done the 1500m and I'd been the talk of all the Schools PE teachers at the local school games.1 point

Never could get serious about track. I did cross country (5k through the woods) here for years before moving onto Marathons and then ultra marathons. Give me a 100m race before doing that damn track workout again.1 point

I stopped using scales 20 years ago. People used to slate me for it. I just look in the mirror naked, this is the best indication of the shape you're in. BMI is quite stupid, it can have people overweight. Even so a lot of the weight is lean muscle. The person can have low bodyfat, more lean muscle which weighs more then fat, yet according to BMI be overweight. It's an outdated process in my opinion.1 point

They don't let you upload pictures if they're not your own. If it's widely available on internet they'll quickly take it down or some days max. Now I take screenshots of highlights of matches on high resolution. They setup a panel for propose deletion of those pics, suspect copy violation but couldn't find any valid ownership. They'll never catch me1 point

There are two brilliant magazines in circulation, one is called Racecar Engineering and the other one's Race Tech Magazine - if you're into it and want to expand your horizons and learn more, I can highly recommend both. I've had digital subscription for years, some very insightful stuff there.1 point

Same. I think I much more enjoy the engineering behind F1 more than anything. One thing I have really loved about F1, are the slow motion shots where a driver hits the mating on a corner, and you can see all the vibrations through the frame to the fender, and see that energy disperse the way it does. Also, and I haven't seen this recently, but those practices where the cars would have a railing on them and paint would splash along the car to show the aerodynamics. It's all brilliant in its own way and I can't get enough of it.1 point

I love mechanics and engineering in general, and it's crazy what kind of solutions those brilliant racecar engineering minds come up with regularly to find that extra speed, performance and drivability. Absolutely amazing.1 point

yeah man, no worries. If you end up with any questions or (god forbid) an injury, feel free to reach out and I can try and help out. I think you're spot on with scales. They are pointless unless your a boxer trying to qualify for a certain weight class. I'm 6'1", and 175lbs. Now that could mean that I'm slim and in shape, or not in shape whatsoever. We done own a scale anymore, so I'm guessing weight, but you get the point. Just know where you want to be fitness wise, and then do it.1 point

Only theoretically in terms of the downforce though. In practice, without any tweaks and modifications, the engine will just starve and stop working because the fuel and oil pickup is gravity based.1 point

Cheers mate, I'm more about getting my health and wellbeing back if I'm honest. I've been a slob over the last four months so I just want to get myself back into my running. I'm never going to be a marathon runner but I would comfortably churn out 10k runs in the past. I don't like using scales because you can become obsessed with them, I have certain Polo tops that I know I have to be in shape to wear. I will know I'm happy with myself again when I can happily go out in one of them.1 point

Just got back from a walk through the local park, beautiful day out and nice and sunny, just took my time and then headed off to Tesco''s to pick up some wholmeal bread and some garlic puree. I would love to know how the FUCK did whoever manage to put this graffiti up on the wall? and no, that is not a ledge below it but just a wall going all the way down. I passed the local pub and I was tempted to go in and guzzle a couple of pints but I thought I had better not, will save that until next time when I go out with the wife.1 point

Once a week for me. One of my biggest issues is eating out, we eat out a lot and sometimes that's as bad as a takeaway anyway. I've also started buying myself sandwiches from the local sandwich shop for lunch, I've never really ate baguettes and stuff like that before as I know how bad they can be for you. Problem is once you start getting into a cycle of a certain eating pattern it's hard to break out of because your so bloody hungry come lunch time.1 point

Aye, I love my veg anyway and I won't starve myself that's for sure, our daughter did a bit of nursing in her time and taking care of the elderly and children with handicaps so she is on the ball and watches me and the wife like an owl. Visiting her yesterday and getting the grilling...no, not food... and asking me how I was going diet wise etc, so we are in safe hands with her around.1 point

Good for you, sounds like your in a good place mentally and physically at the moment. My situation is basically unusual for me, I've always been into the gym and generally staying fit and healthy. I'd say this is the first period of my life where I've let myself go a bit and lost that hunger to get out and exercise. If I'm totally honest it was my Mum of all people who opened my eyes to it the other day. She's always known I keep fit by either playing football or running etc.. she asked me if I was doing anything anymore which lead me to ask her why she would ask. Her reply wasnt nasty or cruel just she was concerned she'd noticed I'd gained a few pounds and it was unlike me. So like yourself I'm gonna get back on it today, I'm not gonna go into it thinking I can do the same distances as I've done previously or the same times per mile. I'm just gonna build slowly and try and enjoy it more than anything. First things first though, I need a new Spotify play list!1 point

Doing pretty well atm Happy, my weight has dropped down to 191.4 (13.6 stone), that's thanks to the wife & daughters evil eyes food wise, and that's down from near on 15 stone when I was at the docs but I didn't take that as the true weight as I had my clothes on etc so you have to give a bit for that factor. Plus I make sure I am out and about for a walk daily, I had 2 slices of brown wholemeal bread for breakfast and my lunch will consist of the below which is seedless grapes and a peach yoghurt, it's a fucking pain today though as the wife has some spaghetti bolognese on the go for her, our son & grandson's dinner and the smell is driving me crazy as I normally have that with tagliatelle instead of spaghetti. But she said she will save me some less the other bits so that means I will only get a small portion instead of the full plate...sigh Todays early lunch.1 point

Mo Salah wants a staggering £500,000 a week to extend his stay with Liverpool. The 29-year-old is already one of the biggest earners at Anfield – a reward for continually ending up on top of the club’s scoring charts https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/mo-salah-liverpool-transfer-news-249098961 point

Any small help mentally is a start mate. It’s not about equipment or aids for me personally but if it helps you do it. I used hate those cunts who would preach #feelinggood and post every exercise they do and gym selfies on Facebook. However since attempting to regain my fitness and feeling the buzz of improving every time I run… I get it. Still won’t see me posting it on Facebook every day but when you’ve felt terrible for months as we have.. small steps feel good. Stick at it! I’ve been doing average 4 miles 3 times a week rest day in between. Every time improve by a few seconds. Most recent one the other day. Not Facebook worthy but it’s tf365 worthy .1 point

Been setting PB after PB recently on my running spot near me. Nothing massive just small gains. Stamina’s improving and the fitness is coming back. Nowhere near what it used to be when I was younger, but I’ll get there eventually..and better. Feels good.1 point

You taking the piss because I am on a diet I loved my takeaways when we had them like beef curry with egg fried rice, big mac and chips, half a chicken with chips, fish & chips...you are taking the piss, you have made me fucking hungry now0 points
