Well, they have several titles with their Handball and Field Hockey national teams, it's just neither Rugby or Cricket are big in Germany. Just because you English have this three as their main sports, doesn't mean this has to be the case for everyone, you see.

Hockey and handball are way down the scale on big sports, and we’ve won Olympic gold in hockey.

Handball is basically basketball for Soggy Baguettes, Basketball incidentally is probably the forth biggest sport in the world in terms of viewership of a World Cup behind Football, cricket and Rugby.

Handball is like darts in terms of relevance.

What a final, dont think I have seen anything better in cricket (except the kolkata test, natwest final and SA chasing 434). Incredible match but felt very very sad for NZ, they didnt deserve to win at all. Congrats to England for fighting it till the last minute and a little bit of luck also helped them but very deserving overall.

Im pretty sure majority of the cricket fans are more unhappy about NZ than happy about england, such a cruel match this was. NZ can keep their heads really high and be proud of what they have achieved, hopefully they win one soon.

Only sport that really matters is football, let's be honest. The English cricket team and rugby team are just full of posh gimps who wouldn't know a decent pub if they were in one. Enjoy sport for a what it is dont get railroaded into nationalist bollocks.

To be fair I think a lot of people enjoyed today's events for sure. Great spectacle for anyone watching today's cricket (and sport) unfold.

Playing wise numbers for hockey are huge but that’s because it’s the no 1 girls sport and England have won that to. In terms of world cups nobody watches it compared to the big 3

football, Rugby, Cricket

Just trolling now. Still I’ll indulge you just because it’s fun to, Woakes & Ali are both from working class areas of Birmingham and joined amateur clubs did well got brought into academy systems for Warwickshire while they both continued on in state education.

I could pick holes in Rugby to but can’t be arsed, my point is made

It’s Lords it’s tradition to dress up in the pavilion end as it’s members of the MCC all usually wear their blazers. I agree though a few paralytic chavs resplendent with fosters would have been better to look at

Nothing wrong or mental about celebrating the fact that England have now won the cricket, rugby and football world cup. And it's not England's fault that there is lack of quality teams on other sports or some of the countries not playing the other sports. A World Cup is a World Cup, the highest prize. The pinnacle of that sport. It's a notable achievement.

It's not like Americans calling domestic competitions World series or World championships.

True, I could never work that one out but that is the American way and they won't change the saying 'World Series' just because some people around the World don't like it, it just goes on year after year.

The only thing that bugs me (and I am English and born in England) is the way the media explode when England win a World title in any sport and the players become Supermen yet if they lose it and get knocked out by a small team then the media say they are shite.

Good on England winning yesterday and I did watch the celebrations after a few times but to be honest when that match was going on I was watching the tennis, Djokovic v Federer and I was only watching that because the wife likes tennis and she was watching it and as Djokovic said after " his epic Wimbledon final victory over Roger Federer was his most "mentally demanding" match - and he even had to tell himself the partisan crowd was cheering for him", if England had lost in the cricket I bet the media guys would hold an inquest in how it all went wrong with England during the series and the ending and they should have done this, they should have done that, blah, blah, blah...

Let's see if England can win another World title in sport, the football World Cup 1966 and nothing else since and Geoff Hurst was the hero "they think it's all over...it is now" the Rugby Union World Cup in 2003 and nothing else since "and Jonny Wilkinson was "the hero kicking a drop goal in the final minute", now we have the Cricket World Cup being won by England and Stokes the hero, I wonder when they will win another World Cup in cricket?

Remember, I am English and born in England but all they have been showing on the news this morning (all channels) is England winning the Cricket World Cup, a little bit of a mention about the Wimbledon Final and hey!! I have just remembered, the Ladies Netball World Cup Finals is being played and England are doing well and thrashed Samoa 90-24 and topping Group D...O.o :coffee:

I love this fact about Americans that they crave for sports which are part of their culture irrespective of whether others care about it not. Really shows the character of the nation.

Basketball, Ice hockey, baseball, American football all sports only played by some countries seriously but they don't give a fuck.

and here you have India, Pakistan where for some generations field hockey was the first love, but since it didn't had the glamour globally so let's just give up a part of your sporting culture and focus on other sports.

You have to remember the size of America which includes Alaska & Hawaii so really they can class some sports as the World Series in America and give them their due they will have a crack at anything, American Grid Iron football and Baseball are more than likely the two biggest sports over there but I would not mind betting if cricket was introduced into America in some format they would have a go at that as it's similar to baseball, the wife always maintains baseball is rounders we played when we were kids.

Today I learned that Guptill only has two toes on his left foot. Lost three toes in an accident, where his brother drove a fork lift over his left foot.

My dad literally told me that yesterday and I was quite surprised! He's done alright considering.

Fleming went to meet him, when he was in the hospital. Guptill's dad requested Jeff Crowe for this gesture to cheer up the lad. He was thirteen then. Martin later broke Fleming's Kiwi record on debut of the highest ODI score on debut.

Yep, has done quite well since then.

The comments on this thread xD Classic Englishness. Always choose the negatives over the positives.

Anyway, we are jammy, jammy fucks. We had so many level's of luck our way. You will never see that Stokes deflection ever again. It was a moment, like Aguero winning the PL title for City in like the last second of the season.

And to win on boundaries is like winning a World Cup in Football on corners. Pretty ridiculous really. If anything, they should have just said as England won the group game between them, that would be the differential.

But you know what? We've been so unlucky across all form's of Sport that when we do get the rub of the green, we should take it. You have to. All the best sides sometimes need a bit of luck to win, it can't be all purely on skill and ability.

We deserve to win it to be frank. The journey this team has been on and given we've been spanking teams out the park on a regular basis for the last three years in this format, we deserve to have something to show for it. I cannot remember many big Sporting tournament's where we have come in as favourites and despite the added pressure (And I still don't think we really truly ever reached our very best level in most the games), we still had enough.

Feel terrible for NZ, they have won a lot of friends along the way though and were worthy final opponent's.

Now to smash the Aussies in the Ashes. We need to use this momentum and crush them into the ground, no mercy (Sorry @Toinho, love you really)

That's actually a bad analogy.

Sorry, I would never compare Maradona to Ben Stokes.

1. Maradona intentionally cheated and never apologised. Stokes incident was a complete freak accident and he still apologised for it.

2. To label Stokes a cheat, which is effectively what it is with that comparison, would be an insult when you have Australians caught on camera trying to rough up a ball or the 3 Pakistani players spot-fixing, not to mention the biggest cheat of all, Hanse Cronje.

Boundaries are the cricket equivalent of goal difference every team is aware of the rules game 1 and play accordingly. The whole “it’s no way to decide it” is just childish bitching, if you went into a casino bet heavily on black all night and won loads but then lost as it was red, would the croupier leave your chips because “you’ve done well”?

Childish bleating it really is.

Anyway will this revive English cricket? It’s been suffering for 2-3 years, I personally dislike Strauss so haven’t bothered with them much but I did watch the KO stages of this competition and I do try to follow Ireland.

The 100 on terrestrial Tv could mean a return to significance for them?

Really not a fan of this The 100 thing. The concept is all wrong and they're just trying to make it like the IPL. The franchise names are terrible as well xD
