Is there any player of ours they don't want xD Phillips, Cancelo, Walker while we are interested in Kimmich, Sane & Davies. must mean we are getting Rice if we are ready to let Phillips leave or better still, Kimmich part ex @Viva la FCB

Yes, they don't want Cancelo. He's back from loan, without Bayern interested to buy.

Phillips would make logical sense, especially if you guys do hijack Rice from Arsenal.

Phillips is on Bayern's summer shortlist and the club supposedly have a good relationship with his agency CAA Stellar.

The Bundesliga side are desperate to sign a holding midfielder and even went in for Rice.

However, he wants to stay in the Premier League, forcing Bayern to go for other targets.

West Ham are also interested in Phillips and he could be part of a player plus cash bid for Rice expected to go in shortly, giving them the upper hand in the race

I’ll hate if this is the big midfield signing for us, we’d be a laughing stock.

James Pearce seems to be indicating we're not in for a specialist DM anymore and Endo's going to be our likely starter in that role for the season. But we're still looking to sign a CM, but not necessarily a "number 6."

I feel sorry for Phillips, he was so good in the Championship and in Leeds' first season up. Not to mention at the Euro's where he continually outshone Declan Rice who has just got a big move to Arsenal.

I don't know if it's a mentality issue or a tactical issue that he just doesn't get at City. Ironically I think he would have done a lot better at Liverpool than City just because I think there's more similarity between Bielsa's physical game plan and Klopp's versus Pep's extremely tactical. I think he'd be a good permanent signing for Liverpool tbh, but obviously they need that statement midfielder still.

I think Brighton would be a great move but I can't see them going after a loan. Feels like he'll end up at Palace, West Ham of Fulham at this rate. But I do believe he should be playing at a much higher level.

Pretty much spot on, I can't disagree with any of that.

He really should have gone to Liverpool last Summer. Was chuffed for him to get the City move but I think confidence has battered him by not regularly playing.

He even said in a TV interview he rang Bielsa for a chat and advice after City's game v Leicester.

He's a real honest, likeable lad and I think he's struggled with the mentality level that City are at. Grealish took a year to learn it, others have too. It's a complete different intensity.

I just think he just needs to feel valued again and hopefully the rest comes. A loan move would be great for him in these circumstances. I'd not rule out someone like Villa who hold a long term interest or West Ham.

I don't think he'd be that good with us tbh and I don't think he was all that impressive at the Euros either... I honestly thought he and Rice were pretty underwhelming as while they offered solidity and organisation in midfield, they really weren't doing much for our creativity. And when you don't have a midfield offering much in the way of creativity, it's really forcing Kane to play the role of main creator and goalscorer too - makes his job all the more difficult and piled more pressure onto him tbh.

Seeing his name continually linked with us all summer hasn't really filled me with a lot of confidence and if we get him on loan from City, I suspect it's going to just be more of him sitting on the bench than anything else.

Expecting a DM to provide all of your midfield's creativity is like expecting your centre back to score all your goals. Playing Rice and Phillips together in a midfield is always going to be defensive, but I really think you're doing Phillips a disservice saying that he doesn't offer creativity, his ability to pass through the lines is one of the best things about his game as a defensive midfielder. Even just the few bits below show what he's capable of in quite a rigid England team during the Euros.

Shock Liverpool signing on, as Man City greenlight mind-boggling midfield exit

Manchester City are open to loaning out Kalvin Phillips for a season and Liverpool are fast emerging as a credible contender to snap up the England international, per reports.

Phillips cost a package worth £45m when moving from boyhood club Leeds to Man City last summer. However, despite the sizeable outlay, the midfielder has made little to no impression at the Etihad thus far.

Indeed, the 27-year-old racked up just 593 minutes of first-team football last term. His fortunes haven’t changed in the early going this season, with Phillips yet to make a single appearance in City’s Community Shield, UEFA Super Cup and two Premier League clashes.
