Football Manager 2019

We should genuinely run a competition for who can have the best career and take it to a vote.

However we should also give people the option to start a new career on previous versions because I'm sure I won't be the only one likely to give this version a swerve.

I don't think it will work to be honest as on average people tend to change careers about 3/4 times per year. It's only me and Stan that go for one save per game.

Yeah some people will stick with a long term save though for long enough for it to be worthwhile.

Especially with the incentive of winning a competition on TF365.

I'll wait to hear some reviews on this before I buy it. I didn't like 18. Didn't like it aesthetically or the match engine.

Holding out for a Switch version mainly, though there has been a retirement.

And the Switch version has been confirmed. Same version as 2018 (Touch) but will be out towards the end of November.

I'm undecided on what to do still.

Got my sights set on starting at either Sporting Lisbon or Sunderland. With Lisbon i'd ideally like to travel amongst Europe on my save but that would be difficult on the Touch version if you cannot add/remove leagues and have a maximum of three countries.

I would consider Fifa Career Mode instead if they sorted out there bollocks transfer system as after three years of barely playing it i'd do very well to be very good on world class like I was at Uni. From what I gather, last year they jumped from having sides signing one player every four years to transfers that were completely unrealistic and happening far too frequent.

I’ve never really got on board with hating or disliking a particular version of FM. I find them largely very similar so don’t really think there’s much to dislike about them.

Will get FM19, I’ve had FM every year since the FM title come into play and I’m looking forward to the new one, as I am at this stage every year.

Sadly, I’ve not found the time to play FM as much over the past year, often opting for shorter term saves, like starting unemployed and picking a club up in December-January time with the aim of survival.

I am going to say this now and I’m going to attempt to stick with it, maybe after a week or so of looking at the game but I’m going to try and have one save for as long as possible and I’m going to attempt to throw myself into the finer details of the game. I’m not sure where I’ll start, probably somewhere at the bottom end of the game in England, but I’m going to take my time with the save and dedicate my time to some aspects of the game I usually don’t pay much notice too like training, the more detailed finances etc.

I've purchased it whilst it's cheap and the touch version comes free. The new skin looks slick in the screenshots. I just hope my laptop handles it.

Mobile version with Touch on the Switch for me.

Is the Switch version not the full game?

Nope. Can't think of any system outside a PC that can run the full game without issues.

Touch suits the Switch better anyway due to the handheld/tablet mode.

Yeah, was just thinking how beneficial it would be to play FM on the Switch as opposed to a laptop.

Depends I guess. A laptop can obviously run the full version but is bulkier to carry. If the Switch has touch options in handheld mode, that'd counter the mouse issue.

For anyone buying it next month, it's 10% off on Steam to pre-order. £34.19.

I'm going to go with no. The streamlined version comes free with it so. So if the big game fails that should act as a saviour.

The BETA is out now.

Realistically though, I'm not going to have a chance to download it until Tuesday next week :(

I just got it. Interface is a lot better than 18. However, the match engine is the big one. I'll let people know here if its any good.

Was totally uninterested in getting 18, but the new tactical interface looks brilliant. If it works, it would be a fix to so many of the things that have bugged me over the years, like not being able to create a compact defensive shape without going into "contain" mentality.

FINALLY SI! You have a choice if you want to just overlap on one side. I can't tell you how frustrating it was to use the instruction "look for overlap" but having 1 full back on defend, hence leaving one flank totally worthless.

Played about 4 games so far and the match engine seems OK. Going to have to experiment into it a bit more, but the biggest issue I'm seeing is a lot of corner goals, and it's not even that rampant. Thankfully the balls over the top issue seems fixed and crosses aren't OP.

Just pre registered for the mobile version so that I know it's out. May consider the PC version, though it'll likely struggle on my near 10 year old MacBook.

They finally did it - they got the match engine right. It's still not perfect, it's got a lot of corner goals but otherwise, it's been exactly as I hoped it would be. It's good enough. There are less running in before a terrible long shot, no long balls over the top, no OP crossing. It's really good.

The scouting is much improved from 18. That was a very transitional era for Football Manager and now when you scout, you get it in your inbox like in the older games, not like 18 where you had to go into your scouting news to look through the agent offers, the scouting options and then your assignments.

Lastly, the training feature as well as tactics have been fantastic. You have so many options and so much freedom on what you want to play now. New instructions, tactical and formation fluidity. Of course, you can choose what training you want to do prior to before where you could only do attacking, defending, balanced, team cohesion, fitness or ball control.

It's way too soon to say it's the best football manager I've played, but it is hands down the most complete and I hope the full release improves it.

It's a sorry state of affairs when somebody that rides a camel has a more powerful laptop than somebody that drives a BM.

Is the beta pre-order only?

Would be happy to buy it right now tbh, but I'm fairly sure the girlfriend or my parents are thinking of buying it for my birthday which is in just under a month and I'd like to save the £35.

Had a little play with both full and touch versions before work and my first impressions are very good. The interface is good, the scouting layout is better and the tactics are a real improvement. I'm going to power through my final FM18 season and move on to this.

The Touch version is literally FM17. Im really impressed with how they've streamlined everything on that. If you have a Switch or a tablet instead of a laptop then you will be very impressed with the major improvement. Plus you can now do as many league's as you want.

It's more than likely my uninspiring tactics, but since the game is still in beta mode, I am struggling to score goals. My defence has been rock steady in my first 3 saves but I can't bloody score. With a 5-3-2 WB and a 4-2-3-1.
