SirBalon Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 Varane? I can make arguments for the other two, but Varane?
Happy Blue Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 Here's a novel idea, call me wacky, crazy but vote for the ballon d after the season's have finished across Europe!
Administrator Stan Posted November 17, 2018 Author Administrator Posted November 17, 2018 Varane is a wild choice to have in the final 3. Modric & Mbappe are understandable.
Marc Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 Modric, King Ramos and CR7 baby should be the final 3
The Artful Dodger Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 Messi been easily the best player over the year but I think his poor performances at crucial stages should lose him the award this year. Give it Modric or Mbappe.

Cicero Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 Modric for me. Mbappe being selected quite simply is ridiculous. Aside his performance against Argentina, what has he actually done?
Administrator Stan Posted November 17, 2018 Author Administrator Posted November 17, 2018 @Cicero he's done a bit more than just 'score against Argentina'

So that merits a top 3 finish? Sorry, no player from Ligue 1 deserves a mention, let alone a club from Ligue 1 that are notorious bottle jobs in Europe every season.

SirBalon Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 If we’re not going to count Ligue1 last season (La Liga has been discounted for this edition) so we have the Champions League and the World Cup remaining. As far as I’m concerned what he done in the World Cup is nowhere near enough to win the Ballon d’Or and in the Champions League, well, enough said. The possibility of Varane being in the top three is the biggest joke ever. He was crap last season.

DeadLinesman Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 Agreed with last few posts. Fucking ludicrous that he’s even being mentioned. It’s all about marketability. Might as well throw in that fucking dabbing arse from our midfield as well.
The Artful Dodger Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 We can pick and choose which leagues are worth more than others if we like but the fact is that Spain, England, Italy and Germany all had equally noncompetitive seasons with the winners pissing the title, it was one of the most tedious seasons across Europe all round. With that in mind, Mbappe's domestic treble and brilliant World Cup performances deserve credit and I'd say put him in the frame. He's 19. What he's done so far is incredible. As I've said, Messi is the best player and he is every year by a huge margin, we live in world which believes Cristiano Ronaldo deserves comparison to Messi's talent, so why not have Mbappe in there too?

Messi deservedly won it in 2010, not sure where this myth has come from that there was a player that performed consistently better than Messi during that year (or any year since then) has come from.

But even then the whole argument is very arguable on any sphere.

Carnivore Chris Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 Modric, Mbappe and Messi should be the 3 to be honest. Varane potentially being on it is laughable.
DeadLinesman Posted November 18, 2018 Posted November 18, 2018 The cult of celeb is alive and well. Mbappe just isn’t top 3 material yet.
