Azeem Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 China and US are now eyeballing each other forming aggressive pacts in around each other. I would avoid unnecessarily poking anyone of them on the others pressure. Quote

nudge Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 Death toll in Myanmar protests passes 500... Security forces are beating, shooting and straightout torturing unarmed people in the streets indiscriminately, including children, abducting protesters and bystanders, breaking into hospitals and terrorising staff and patients, looting houses and setting them on fire. Three of the armed ethnic rebel groups in the country (the Ta'ang National Liberation Army, the Myanmar Nationalities Democratic Alliance Army and the Arakan Army) have threatened the military with retaliation, saying that if the military doesn't stop the bloodshed, they will protect the protesters and fight back. Military forces have also been launching airstrikes, things are especially bad in Karen State, with thousands Karen people escaping the bombing now displaced and having to live in caves, as Thai forces are also forcing refugees back to the conflict zone. 1 Quote
Administrator Stan Posted March 31, 2021 Administrator Posted March 31, 2021 Heroes! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-56576659 Quote A group of young people in the French city of Nantes are being hailed for rescuing a family from a fire in an apartment building. Dramatic footage shows them scaling the side of the building and helping the parents escape their third-floor flat on Sunday afternoon. Mattresses were brought to the foot of the building and the couple's six-month-old baby was thrown to safety. She was taken to hospital in a critical condition but is said to be recovering. One of the youths involved in the rescue, Tahmid, told the Ouest-France website that the decision to throw the infant from the balcony was "the last possible solution" as smoke billowed from the building in the Bottière district of Nantes. The fire also spread to other flats in the building and firefighters rescued several other people. Kenza Zekkar, the leader of local youth organisation Bien-être et solidarité Pays de la Loire, told the BBC that she had organised the family's rescue while local residents waited for the fire service to arrive. Her husband was among the young men who climbed the outside of the building to help bring the parents to safety, she said. Her organisation is now calling for three of those involved in the rescue, who are all migrants, to be given official papers and housing. An online petition addressing French President Emmanuel Macron has also been launched, calling for "honour and recognition for the heroes of Bottière". The story echoes the case of a Malian migrant who was widely praised for climbing the outside of a building to rescue a small boy dangling from a fourth-floor balcony in Paris in 2018. Mamoudou Gassama was later made a French citizen and presented with a medal for courage by the president. Quote

He was spot on. Lopez Aliaga is in running and he's been dubbed as Porky as he dressed like the character from Looney Tunes. He's our Trump, talks a lot. Already threatened to ban anime due to religion (which is an awful idea as we've got great ties with Japan) and he's saying he's going to do a bunch of things to win in his favour. Unfortunately, the other candidate is worse. So we're in a terrible state for the next elections. Porky isn't winning so far. *phew* Alberto Beingolea is one of the favourites, which I find madness. He used to be a sports journalist. A former footballer in George Forsyth is also in the running, but he's not expected to win. Quote

Azeem Posted April 3, 2021 Posted April 3, 2021 Fun fact The British when drawing up borders in Middle East as per deal gave the three sons of the Sheikh of Mecca lands to rule for joining the revolt against the Ottomans. Out of these three sons only one's lineage still holds kingship, the monarch of Jordan. One was overthrown by Baathists in Iraq & the other one's was fucked off by French in Syria who favoured Bashar al Assad's father in power. Quote

Administrator Stan Posted April 9, 2021 Administrator Posted April 9, 2021 Love stuff like this. Finding treasures of history from thousands of years ago in Egypt, which has a very rich ancient history anyway https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-56686448 Quote
Azeem Posted April 9, 2021 Posted April 9, 2021 Why is that the ancient Egyptians recorded every thing of their culture and every event in their history in the hieroglyphics but nothing about the pyramids? Quote

We are totally fucking up this planet.. Quote

But then they go on to state that its going to take decades to empty it all out and thereby increasing its concentration in and around the areas it will be dumped into. Seems like science is failing a tad bit here. Edited April 18, 2021 by Mel81x 1 Quote
