Iranian TV 'cancels' Bayern Munich vs Augsburg broadcast 'because of woman referee Bibiana Steinhaus'

Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reportedly 'cancelled' a screening of Bayern Munich's win over Augsburg because the referee in charge was female.

Highly-rated German official Bibiana Steinhaus was given the appointment for the crucial Bundesliga game on Friday night.

IRIB were due to screen title-chasing Bayern as part of their coverage of the European game.

But their executives reportedly pulled the plug on the broadcast once they discovered the whistle-blower wasn't a man.

According to German outlet BILD: "The Iranian state television IRIB removed the program at short notice."
Iranian journalists reported the cancellation with thousands left disappointed at the last-minute alteration of the schedule.
The Islamic country is understood to censor the showing of women in apparent revealing clothes such as football shorts.

No official statement has been made to clarify the abandonment of the coverage.

Steinhaus, 39, is the first woman to have officiated a men's senior football matches in Germany. She joined the Bundesliga rota in September 2017.

Last year, she was named as one of Germany's best officials.
She gave an interview to DW last year about her progress, saying: "The Bundesliga is one of the world's most respected leagues, so having a female official here is a big step in general for female officials.

"The recipe for respect is to treat people the way you would like to be treated. You don't need to scream and shout to get a job done. Communication is key.

"You must be polite, helpful and straight forward. If you can do this, I think you’re on the right path.
"I don't really like the gender topic when it comes to refereeing I understand that it's a topic for people around me.

"At the end of the day, the performance is what matters. And the person producing the best performance should be the person on the pitch, no matter what gender, what hair color, what religion.

"That's all that counts."

I remember when she was fourth official once, and Iranian TV showed the crowd every time she was seen. How fucking stupid :D

Haha no, I just read that in the news :P

I don't know if that's true since most Iranian state TV of international sporting events is stealing a feed and pasting their own logo on it and occasionally editing a club logo (like Man Utd's is censored because it depicts a devil & Roma's is censored because of wolf tits). I guess it's possible they're delaying the feed and editing a picture of the crowd to be shown rather than a female fourth official.

It's fucking pathetic though. The Iranian government is so fucking repressive and regressive and overall fucking stupid, it's hard to believe Iranians had a revolution to replace a western puppet with something even worse... yet that's what fucking happened.

I shows how much Spain are so desperate when their top teams sell them selves like whores to the Middle East and even delete parts of their history and image to get investments, it's sickening.

I don't think anyone's whoring themselves out to Iran, even if they wanted to (which I'm sure they do, it's a big football market). Sanctions and all of that makes it unlikely anyone doing business with... the rest of the world (as all of the big leagues are) will want to do anything that'll be violating those sanctions.

Its really sad more then anything, with all the information available in the world today and all the advancements they still choose to live and believe in the something so archaic. I was just talking about something similar with my cousin and her son when they where here from Japan a few weeks ago; Japan is much the same.

In what regard and to what extend?

Ill try and keep this as brief as I can but it was a long convo lol. So first off a little background my cousin's are both Austrian/German Ill start with with one; shes lived in Japan for I guess close to 20 years, she was married to a Japanese fellow and they had a son whos now 16, who visibly looks half Japanese. He was bullied all through school because of how he looks (which im told is normal) to the point she home schooled him for a couple years until high school in which they sent him to a what is essentially a foreigner school to finish his education; its quite expensive as it has a school population of less then 100. However the Japanese post education options wont and dont recognize his schooling. He basically is forced overseas to get post secondary which is what he wants to do. So the opposite is my other cousin who for some reason also lives in Japan is married with 2 kids that both look Japanese and have 0 problems. So they are getting a traditional education; they both are the age where schools make them join clubs. So they're typical day consist of the following: regular school, club activites (sports etc.) and then what they call cram school, which is more studying. They dont get home until well into the evening. Now the clubs; if you join a sports team (im not sure about all of the clubs) if your'e a junior you dont play at all durring the year you have to practice and wait your turn until youre a senior.

Alright so onto my first cousin again. I mentioned she was married to a Japanese fellow for many years but recently separated in the last year or two. She was basically saying divorce doesnt really exist in Japan. How she explained it to me is that the man just walks away and doesnt interact with their kid(s) or former spouse anymore. She was having a real hard time trying to keep her son and him in touch and keep in communication with her.

Lastly is the working system. This I saw and heard alot about first hand. Japanese people typically work 6 or even 7 days a week with only getting a couple days off in a month. The concept of a "Salary man" is a business guy in a suit that works 10-12 hour days regularly to provide for his family with a stay at home house wife and this still exists.

Theres some more things with being a citizen and traveling that are really strange but I think thats about the gist of it.
