Better. Back home now. But scary seeing the effects before the ambulance came.

I can imagine. What was that like? Difficulty breathing or something? :|

So she had neck spasms, jaw was stuck and tongue would be rigid to one side.

It was surreal in a bad way. Had to keep calm for her sake, let alone myself! Wouldn't wish it on anyone, horrible to see. Let alone for her to experience.

Doctors/paramedics/nurses all class though.

That's awful, good thing you were calm that's exactly what she will have needed.

No idea where your head would have been at during that period as I think I'd have been fearing the absolute worse.

Yeah it was pretty terrifying at times.

All kinds of shit goes through your head really. But just gotta be reassuring to ease the pain if possible. It's difficult but that's what you go through as a husband/spouse!

Almost a relief that the ambulance came within 30 mins after being told it my be an initial 90min wait!

You were told 90 minutes!!!!

Even 30 minutes is absolutely insane in an emergency. What the hell has happened to our country.

Your poor wife, well done mate you did good clearly.

Bloody hell man, glad she is ok, that sounds like lockjaw?

Tetanus is an infection caused by bacteria called Clostridium tetani. When these bacteria enter the body, they produce a toxin that causes painful muscle contractions. Another name for tetanus is “lockjaw”. It often causes a person's neck and jaw muscles to lock, making it hard to open the mouth or swallow.

It wasn't lockjaw. It was a spasm in her neck causing the jaw to move to one side, basically a spasm in her jaw too. It's a side effect/allergic reaction to medication, as opposed to an infection.

The main thing is your wife is ok, now being married the 'old love me forever' bit comes into play with anything like that, I have the doc's at lunch time to give another blood sample as the doc noticed the last sample showed a slight infection, with all that the wife does worry a bit with our age. :)

Sorry to hear about your missus @Stan bet that was scary... my missus had something similar happen to her about 10 years ago now, I was getting ready to leave for work one morning and she stood up to give me a kiss goodbye and while we were cuddling something cracked in her neck and she just collapsed unconscious, lucky for both of us that my hugs are super huggy ones and I managed to stop her falling to the floor.. Back then the ambulance was pretty quick getting there not like it is now, they were there in about 20 minutes..

A couple of years back I accidently stabbed myself in the wrist with some gardening secateurs ( I was fighting off a wild bear or some shit like that ) anyway, my wrist was pissing blood like a tap and when the missus called the ambulance they said it would be up to 2 hours before they could get to me!!! My neighbour kindly took me up there straight away and I had to sit in the emergency for an hour with my arm held above my head before they got to me.. xD

Our services are in dire shape these days.. I might go as far to say I think it's a long term Tory plot to run it into the ground and then try and bring in the same type of system the Americans use saying it's the only sensible solution to the problem...

Cheers mate. Very scary!

Thankfully i also have super huggy hugs so we're built from the same cloth 😁.

Think I'd have done the same as well had they taken much longer.

Very much seems like it. NHS privatisation might be the worst thing they ever do. Hopefully there is enough backlash against it to stop it ever happening. Hopefully they're out of power before any movements are made. NHS is one of the best things about this country. Ever. But it's been criminally mis-managed.

You better pray you don't get the same shite they have in America. Imagine needing to pay something mental like 15k for an ambulance ride. Or paying something mental like 5x what everyone else in the world pays for the same medication.

The doctors are all great, sure. But are they that great that the intensely high costs are worth it? Probably not. I've got a partially subsidised insurance policy through my work and thank god I do, because I've had a couple of serious surgeries here that were needed for me to... be able to move like a normal person ever again and to be able to use my hand like it's a hand. I would have gone completely broke or been permanently disabled if not for that tbh.

It's an absurd system they've got in America that only really exists to: 1.) inflate medical prices for everything, 2.) prop up shite insurance companies.

It’s a system designed for those with money to skip ahead of the line and have the best medicine for themselves. Socialism for the rich. The USA probably has the best doctors and medicine in the world, but 99% of Americans wouldn’t know that because they can’t afford it.

It’s bizarre to me as well because their system just props up a huge industry that probably wouldn’t exist in a “free market” that wasn’t using their insane system.

The amount it would cost taxpayers to have a US NHS-style system is way less than the costs individuals (and their employers) have to pay. And this artificially propped up insurance industry ultimately just serves to make the whole healthcare system more expensive than it is in any other country America would want to be compared to.

Sabotaging the NHS to bring that kind of bullshit to the UK is the most morally bankrupt thing any government could try to do.

200% you fucken tell em mate. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, everyone is already paying into an insurance scam. Cut that bullshit middleman out and if everyone put that money into national healthcare people might not be scared to seek medical attention.

But that would never happen because of someone earns more money than me, they are morally and ethically superior, deserving better medicine.

The only thing I wish this government would get sorted out is a universal healthcare system.  I would pay more in taxes to make it happen.  I don't go to the doctor all that often personally, but to see others struggle to pay their medical bills is fucking sickening.
