  1. I always found those stories fascinating. We analysed quite a few such cases at uni, focusing on language acquisition in particular. It's crazy that there's a critical period in a child's life to learn a language, and if they miss it, they'll never be able to acquire the functional ability to use a language. Brain development is completely bonkers...

  5. Just read the whole thing. The most amazing thing for me is, that so many species of animals are apparently ready to adopt a human child. That one kid was raised by Ostriches. Wtf.

  7. Don't worry @nudge I haven't given up drinking permanently. I just don't think I can quit smoking and drink at the same time - I think I'll need a few weeks off alcohol before I can drink without feeling the urge to smoke

  8. It's a vicious cycle because largely you cannot blame the plain Aussie for feeling that way, they are disconnected from the history and reality of it. When all they see is a people that are fucked up by drugs, alcohol, and violence it's easy to become biased. Most people don't think about the cycle of poverty or the exact circumstances that have to led to Indigenous Australians adopted a very self destructive culture. Some people are just lost, an Indigenous mate of my was just chatting with me and said that another kid we went to school with tried to killed himself last night. It's bad, young men killing themselves en masse, and they are the ones meant to be leaders and elders for the future. But what can you do? They need a culture change and they need to do it internally, the government can give them the tools but a few determined and loving individuals can only do so much, social workers hands are tied, they can't remove children from violent and hate-filled environments because of the political and historical ramifications of that. The children next to my house were subjected for horrible abuse and neglect, it was heartbreaking but there were only so many options available to help, and you just know that those kids are going to grow into people that will do the same thing, because they don't know you can process emotions without violence. You can try to reach them, and teach them but not everyone wants to be reached and have the veil of hatred and self-destruction lifted. That cannot happen in Australia, it's apple and oranges. New Zealand was colonised after the Maori's conquered the natives (that is hearsay but besides the point), they were a unified and homogenous people. Indigenous Australia were over 250 language groups, so to incorporate any of the words and imagery marginalises other groups, besides I don't think they would want to be that way. They like having their own flag and like being 'separate' in a way, I think they'd feel it's just another step of assimilation and taking away their identity by sharing it piecemeal with the rest of Australians. They don't think they want white fellas doing a corroboree dance. There are lot more Maoris than anyway Australian group, and they make a lot more of the population.

  12. I agree on Hezbollah being a player. Think Iran's annoyance was Trump stopping negotiations and putting Sanctions on Iran. They expected Biden to remove Sanctions as part of renewing the negotiations the US has not done this. So they say they are continuing to enrich nuclear material. Iran is a much more difficult target than either Iraq or Syria and since the 90s has been preparing for an attack. Notice with their missile that hit the US airbase in Iraq under Trump it evaded detection.

  16. Shits begining to hit the fan with the Jan 6th committee and documents being turned over. Mark Meadows (the former fascists leaders chief of staff) turned over a whole wack of documents and refused to show up in person (hes being subpoena'd sidebar) Stuff is trickling out about what he did turn in anyways and its staggering. Not surprising but its proving what we all knowl; on record by text run down the list of Fox News fuckheads that where messaging Meadows (as he has trumps ear and is around him... one of the most) pleading and begging for him to speak/stop the attack and asking for all kinds of things. Real shocking that they are all hippocrits I know, Ingraham and Hannity where two standouts. Maybe even more insane is they found a power point presentation of step by step instructions in detail of how they where going to steal the election. The word was they where spreading this to members of congress first as that was the first instruction. Anyways this is fascinating to follow and is only the tip of the iceberg.

  17. I imagine the issue the club has is that it isn't the first time he's breached an agreed protocol. You can't have your Captain comitting multiple disciplinary breaches.

  18. Well it's probably because that link is over a year old... As I said, my point was to show that there are different opinions on the matter. In the end, when you say you're listening to the experts, you're making a choice of which experts you listen to. It's always worth hearing the other side of the argument, regardless what the topic is.
