India’s maiden human space flight mission is targeted for launch in the fourth quarter of 2024. Uncrewed test missions G1 and G2 are scheduled to be conducted in Q4 2023 and Q2 2024! @Mel81x @Stan4 points

One of my near future goals is to get a telescope again, bring it out on the street, and show the kids and other passers-by the beauty of the universe. As you said, it is truly eye (and mind) opening...3 points

Just downloaded the app based on this post, my neighbours must think I'm insane. I've just been walking in circles with my phone in the air. I could see Mars but there is cloud coverage next to the moon so couldn't see Jupiter.3 points

I will keep you posted, I've got the blinds semi closed and I've purchased some binoculars as I read somewhere there essential for being a nosey neighbour.2 points

Just been to the shops and used the Stellarium App on the way. I fucking saw Jupiter and Mars. This has literally been eye opening.2 points

Whoa, got the Stellarium app. When I opened it, I was sitting in my chair like:2 points

I said to the wife a while back I was going to get a pair of binoculars to star gaze and she did her nut and said NO!! neighbors around here would think you are a perv or a peeping tom and call the police, that idea went on the back burner.1 point

In all seriousness, I do use binoculars for stargazing, and it's even more eye opening, but I always feel a bit uneasy if I do that somewhere where there are other houses/apartments around1 point

Imagine they start fighting with each other over it, and the police has to come again.1 point

And Jupiter was right next to the moon. My oblivious ass probably saw it before and was just wondering about that bright star.1 point

Amazing, isn't it? It should be one of those apps that are pre-installed in every phone by default1 point

Cheers, got both of them now. When I first entered Nightshift in the Playstore, it gave me a Sleeping Monitor App as the first option.1 point

Make sure that you go into Settings (the six dots at the bottom left) and activate sensors, so that the view of the sky changes live as you move your phone! And don't forget activating the night mode in the same settings, too1 point

You don't need the pro version, it's mostly for those who use telescopes as it has features for controlling telescopes and planning observing sessions, etc. The free version is more than enough, just search for Stellarium Mobile - Star Map: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noctuasoftware.stellarium_free&hl=en_US&gl=US Nightshift is free, too: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.waddensky.nightshift&hl=en_US&gl=US1 point

I'll make sure to tell you next time And yeah, that site is pretty cool. I use Nightshift app on my phone, and it tells me exactly which planets (and other objects) are visible at what time, and also takes weather conditions and cloud cover into account. This site is also good for daily info on what is visible and where to look: https://earthsky.org/astronomy-essentials/visible-planets-tonight-mars-jupiter-venus-saturn-mercury/ Same with this: https://theskylive.com/ But nothing beats Stellarium app for me. Just point it at the sky, and it will tell you immediately what you are looking at... Very good for learning the night sky.1 point

Why has no one told me that before? Anyway, I found this. Pretty cool: https://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/night/1 point

It's unmistakable, very bright reddish glow, easily brighter than most of the stars. Been like that this whole month, more or less!1 point

Apparently Mars is still visible here until 06:51 next morning. I'll have to take a look on my last walk later.1 point

Haha, thanks, but I don't care that much - I'm mostly into endurance racing anyway, and VLN keeps on delivering. With WEC entering the new golden age and Porsche returning to the top class now things are going to get even better in this aspect!1 point

Right so you can't. I'm not saying you are lying mate. You might be right you might be wrong. If you are wrong you may be mistaken. All I'm saying is you cant provide any evidence of what you have said. I think its unlikely farage would say that. I'd imagine many others doubt it as well. And since you have not been able to provide any evidence. I'm not gonna change my mind. And I doubt others will either. I'm not saying you should change your mind either. There's no reason for any of us to.1 point

I’ve not watched a lot of Chelsea since Potter took over, but having watched the opening exchanges of the Bournemouth game it’s clear to see his game plan. In fact the opening goal pretty much summed it up. Zakaria and Mount are there to provide Jorginho with passing support but mainly they seem to be trying to run into space provided by the front three who are constantly changing position so that there is always a man running at the Bournemouth defence into space. An example of that was Chelsea’s RW dropping in deep with the ball to play it to James and Jorginho at the half way line and as he did that and drew a defender with him Zakaria made a run into the vacated space waiting to pick the ball up in an advanced area. The goal was interesting as before it occurred Mount was on the far left, James tried to run the ball up the wing and pass to Sterling but it wasn’t on so they had to reset back to the centre backs. As they did that Mount drifts back to a RCM position creating an overload in midfield on Chelsea’s right side and that allows Jorginho to pass to Mount who is in space who can then feed Sterling through and let him run at their defence. Havertz hasn’t seemed to have dropped deep centrally much, either he tries to get ahead of the defence to get on the end of a pass/cross centrally or he’s on the right wing position looking to run at the defence creating space for Mount to run into centrally. The players seem to be reacting well to Potter and his system looks to play to their strengths.1 point

Tbf to Dyche he has said he'd probably play differently if he had more money to work with in the transfer market - who knows if that's actually true or not, but I suspect he's hoping he one day gets the chance. I think he's a pretty good manager tbh and I'd be interested to see what he could do with a side with more money. I think he's a Liverpool fan though so I'm not sure how keen he'd be on managing Everton... but who knows, I'm sure he's been waiting for the chance to be a manager in the prem again and it's not like Everton will pay poorly. I think if Dyche or Pochetino are open to the job, Everton would be insane to stick with Lampard.1 point

I think it's only natural to enjoy your rivals losing a key player/staff member. Yeah, just need to look at Alex Ferguson, him moving to England was a complete shambles.1 point

In all seriousness though I saw Mars a few hours ago from my balcony, almost overhead. It's very bright as it's currently still almost at its closest distance to us. Jupiter is very bright currently as well and should be easily spotted as it's right next to the Moon, but unfortunately for me, it's below the horizon already.0 points

Open wheel single seater racing has hit rock bottom in Germany, overall. German Formula 4 will not even be taking place next season, and it used to be one of the strongest junior formula competitions at that level. There are no big coming up talents. It is all just too expensive. Heck, even non-formula racing has issues. DTM has been declining for years, was sold earlier this year, and will become just another generic GT3 series from next season.0 points
