It really does stagger me that a league with this much money behind it can't come up with a VAR era offside rule that is fair, reasonable and makes sense to those watching on television.

Like just employ another fucking guy in the booth who's sole purpose is just to ensure the VAR ruling outcome makes any sense.

Can we just talk about how in England VAR can lead to penalties given after the final whistle...

... but they won’t check for red after an offside decision?

No way was that offside for me.... not what they were showing on my stream anyway, such a crazy system, For me an offside should be where a player is getting a clear advantage and not because a nostril hair might have been a bit longer than the other...

As long as they can skulk about in a room 20 miles away and not have to offer up an explanation for the decision the system will be flawed.. It has a negative aspect to attacking play in my opinion and if we can train a monkey to go into space and back how hard can it be to master a few controls and camera angles in a comfy chair..

It doesn't matter what you think should be offside. It matters what the rules say. I'm not to keen on it myself but it is still the rules.

The rules say you cant be offside with your arm or hands. So you can be offside with your armpit.

You said your elbow can be offside.

I can't tell whether the black or yellow line is meant to represent being in line with Mina's toe but Mane appears to be the right side of both lines. Apparently the red dotted line is supposed to be drawn down from Mane's most advanced body part that he can play the ball with. It's coming down from the outside of his elbow unless you do some serious Matrix analysis on the perspective of the angle of the camera. Very odd decision indeed.

The rules dont say that they say your arms or hand.

Law of the game states you are offsides if anybody part you can score with is over the line...

I don't generally have a problem with VAR giving offsides, even if it's close, but it feels wrong if we're giving offside because of a part of the arm. Even if that's the rule now, I guarantee we'll see multiple handballs given for that this season.

I thought Everton were brilliant today. I know they had 12 men on the pitch for 88 minutes, but it felt like 13 or 14 at times. Every time we had the ball in their half we were surrounded by blue shirts. Excellent organisation and energy without sacrificing anything going forward

Exactly. If Van Dijk had elbowed Pickford in the face, he would have been sent off.

The premier league clubs really need to get together and demand an explanation of these decision from the first few weeks of the season. It’s an absolute farce how bad the decision making is. Don’t tell me having VAR is the issue, nothing like this happens in other leagues. I’ve watched plenty Bundesliga games with referees doing their job and using their eyes and logic to make informed decisions.

We have the worst officials in the world. They get away with murder. No accountability so they can give penalties for fuck all, deny goals to due farcical offside decisions and let players get away with dangerous challenges.

Wikipedia says different. The premier league have stated different. Professional  referees have stated different. Unless you can provide something that states otherwise no reason for me to change my mind.

It’s not the officials it is the rules that you are upset about here. No decision made today was incorrect by the laws of the game. Some sour grapes it seems.

You have read something written up by a drunken tramp on the street cause you’re talking shite. You are trying to tell me that arms can be classed as offside.....get a grip of yourself.

I actually think Oliver is a good ref. The best we have anyway. Unless he's being told to go and review the Pickford on Van Dijk incident then you can't really blame him for that particular decision. The issue we have is it's the same incompetent dickheads reviewing the incidents

Baffling really. Really is fundamentals in terms of offsides.

Well even Wikipedia still disagrees with you...

Offside is one of the laws of association football, codified in Law 11 of the Laws of the Game. The law states that a player is in an offside position if any of their body parts, except the hands and arms, are in the opponents' half of the pitch, and closer to the opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent (the last opponent is usually, but not necessarily, the goalkeeper).[1]

Exactly. It doesn't matter if a super computer referees the game that never made mistakes some fans would still moan
