Really don't think Gerrard is gonna he this super manager many think. Looks tactically clueless to me.

No ill will towards Gerrard he was a brilliant player. Not sure about his management at all though

I think his time at Rangers was good and we maybe give him more than 3 months to prove his Premier League credentials?

Listen pal I will say what I want about Gerrard okay.

Off what I've seen of him he looks tactically clueless. He's always being touted as a replacement for klopp 😂 he's not in klopp league and for me never will be

If he proves me wrong ill hold my hands up. Scottish league is tin pot too

I think Spurs have a brilliant front 3... but I dunno about the best front 3. One's a new signing and he's brilliant imo - and I thought he would be brilliant tbh so I'm not surprised. The other is Kane and we know Kane is world class, and the other is Son and I think Son is one of the best players in the league - but over the course of the whole season, Son's the only one that's really been consistent. Kulusevski's been brilliant and really hit the ground running - but it's hard to judge how consistent he'll be long term because we've not seen him at Spurs long term. Kane's brilliant, but he was woefully out of form for a good chunk of the season... and a part of that is honestly probably just Spurs getting to grips with Conte's tactics after the Nuno disaster. He's obviously been brilliant lately and that's how he's still one of the top 5 scorers in the league despite looking shit for a chunk of the season.

I'll have to see them over the course of a full season playing like this before I agree they're the best front 3. But I think it's easy to say it's one of the best front 3s in the league. I'm obviously biased, but I do have numbers on my side - we've got 3 of our attacking players in the top 4 goalscorers in the league. Spurs have got 2 of their attacking players in the top 5.

There's nothing wrong with Spurs fans feeling confident in their attack given the form they've been in. And they might be right that they have the best front 3 - I just think we'll need to wait and see before we can verify if that's true or not.

Spurs actually look lethal again, so I think their fans are justifiably excited with the form their attackers are in. And why wouldn't they be?

Spurs and Liverpool have the best front three in the league, I would say, although obviously Liverpool are better than us in other areas of the pitch right now.

It's positive because it's the first time in a long time that our new signings (along with Romero) have come in and hit the ground running. Our transfers have been too haphazard, we've missed out on players bickering over a few quid (Dias, Mane, Grealish, Fernandes although I'm not that upset about the last one) and the ones we have signed have veered from disaster to mediocrity. It gives me confidence that Conte is very much involved in the process and knows what he's doing - that and massively improving players who were underachieving has left us in a much better place.

Top 4 is definitely ours to lose now and couldn't have said that even two weeks ago. The goal difference swing could be massive. We were behind Arsenal on that front two games ago and now we're about ten ahead.

Re Gerrard, I will give him that Villa played well in the first half and had us on the ropes. However, his tactics appear to be put better opposition off by kicking them in the air and he'll need to do a lot better than that going forward if he wants to succeed. His over aggressive tactics has just put one of our players out for the season.

Gotta love fans of clubs who are about 20 points further back in the league thinking their players are on a higher level than either of the two best teams in the league over the last three or four years.

Alright so where do you draw the line with this "no nuance allowed" point of view? Is Gabriel Jesus better than Harry Kane?

When Liverpool were the ones regularly finishing 20-30 points away from the top of the league, guess which fanbase was still the loudest ones proclaiming their own players "probably the best in Europe in his position lad" on a daily basis...

I think we did have some players that could have been described as world class.

Pepe Reina, Mascherano, Alonso, Gerrard, Owen, Torres, Suarez to name a few.

They were just often surrounded with players that just weren't good enough to get things over the line.

With the amount of Liverpool players that were allegedly better than rival club players you'd think Liverpool dominated the Premier league for the last two decades.

Not really, just Gerrard, Torres (well... while he was still fast lol), and Suarez. Owen too maybe but I think it's better if we all just pretend he never existed. Then we had some very good players, but idk if they'd be up there with the best players in the league - like Gerrard and those strikers.

Mascherano and Alonso also were signed and went on to win nearly everything possible, so I think they can be included.

I have to say I have been quite disappointed by him at Villa so far. There's been far more hype than substance. If they lose to us in their next game I think they've become the first Premier League side to lose 5 in a row under two managers in the same season xD

It's a team sport?

Alonso went to Real Madrid and then Bayern Munich - two of the most talent loaded sides. Mascherano went to join the best Barca side in history. They made it to those squads because they were world class players. Would they make a top 5 list in their position during their time in the league though? I'm not so sure. With Gerrard, Torres and Suarez, I'm far more confident tbh.

At Liverpool for those two, we had a really great spine - especially once we signed Torres. But the drop in quality out wide was absolutely stark.

I was a massive fan of both Alonso and Mascherano so yeah, I'd say they would.

There are of course exceptions for individual players who have proven themselves over a longer period of time. Kane and Son, for example, are fair enough, they've been doing their thing for years now. The third part of their current front three has only been there about two months, bit early to be calling them collectively the best in the league in my opinion.

Also rich coming from someone who supports a club whose fans are the specialists at picking a combined eleven that contains the majority of their own players.

This isn't what you said in the first place though is it? I'm not even disagreeing about the front three thing, it's just the way everyone else sees that post and goes "cool, Storts is happy with his team's performance and yeah, that front three has clicked really well for them" but one of you guys spot it and go "huh, that person used the word 'best' and he isn't talking about Liverpool, this is an insult to my football club and I need to have a big debate about it until everyone admits that Liverpool are actually the best and all our players are the best and our manager is the best". (Yes, I'm exaggerating but this is intended as a caricature of how it comes across).

You can talk about others being "rich" all you want using things that haven't happened on this forum (or anywhere else that I've seen for at least a decade) but let's look at the actual evidence of this thread. Storts made a post praising his own team's players. Now we're apparently talking about whether Torres and Mascherano were world class or not when they were at Liverpool about half our lifetimes ago. Perhaps, next time I or Storts or Cicero or Stan or DeadLinesman suggest you lot are a liiiiiiiiiiittle bit over the top when it comes to competitively putting forward your players as the conclusive best under whatever criteria has been posited, you can see where we're coming from after today.

Not to mention @Storts original post was that they have the best front three over the past couple of months. It shouldn't have even got to where it is now. Based on the stats Storts then followed up with, it's just a factual statement.

He mentioned 2-3 months. Someone else then went to 3-4 years. But that wasn't the argument in question to begin with!

I didn't even mention Liverpool.

Anyway, I'm not really that arsed. Certainly not enough to continue this.
