Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted March 1, 2023 Subscriber Share Posted March 1, 2023 Just curious, which form of traveling do you prefer? I do love a train journey or even by ship. Edit: Forgot to add why you prefer whatever option you chose.

Subscriber nudge+ Posted March 1, 2023 Subscriber Share Posted March 1, 2023 Car, as it gives me the convenience of being able to plan the trip as I wish and stop whenever and wherever I want to. Train would be my second choice, because they are comfortable, have plenty of space, good views and a nice general vibe. Hate coaches for anything longer than 2-3 hours. Planes are great for reaching your destination fast, but I swear I fucking hate flying.

I don't like the thought of flying nowadays but years ago it never bothered me, but that train journey I mentioned in the other thread from Edinburgh (train) to Hull and then to Rotterdam by ferry and then on a train all the way to Dortmund was brilliant. Again as I mentioned in your Ships and Seafaring thread when we emigrated to Australia by ship, six weeks on the sea was the most enjoyable time in my life, I loved it and the memories are still there today. Do I have unlimited time? If yes, then go by an ocean liner because ships are cool. On the negative side, I would probably die of boredom though. You wouldn't die of boredom I guarantee you that, the ship's entertainment officer would always arrange dance nights and games days and nights plus landing in a port for 24 hours you would get to do a bit of sightseeing. Moderator Tommy Posted March 1, 2023 Moderator Share Posted March 1, 2023 When to Croatia by car once with my parents when I was a kid. 23 hours it took us. By plane I'm there in about 90-100 minutes. So to reach another country, I'd definitely say plane. Of course road trips where you want to see multiple destinations are something different entirely. Trains are cool as well, if you want to reach something within 400-600 km's or so. And fuck boats if it's not a short ferry ride or along the shore. Big boat on big ocean = big scary. I doubt they do a lot of ports of call while crossing the Atlantic ocean I'm sure I'd have a real blast playing bingo for 6 days in a row

N U F C
I like driving places for the reasons already mentioned. Can stop wherever you want and do what you want when you want. Never been a fan of public transport because I can't stand being crowded and I hate flying.
Moderator Tommy Posted March 1, 2023 Moderator Share Posted March 1, 2023 I don't like flying either and I'm always a bit anxious, but that doesn't mean that I avoid it all together. Because that would limit my possible destinations by a huge margin.
Subscriber nudge+ Posted March 1, 2023 Subscriber Share Posted March 1, 2023 Any flight in economy class that is longer than 4-5 hours is a fucking torture. Flying business class makes the whole experience so much better and almost enjoyable, too bad you have to sell a kidney to be able to afford it these days. Business class to the rest of us is getting the front seat, with extra leg room, on a jet2 or easyjet flight .

Goku de la Boca
I used to be scared of flying but now only if I'm on a shittier airline. I still don't enjoy it but my sanity can survive.

Last time I went home from Croatia, they swabbed my hands. I thought it was some kind of drug test, but when I googled it later, I found out that they do that to find potential residue of explosives. Croatian Security straight out thought I could be a terrorist.
Subscriber Coma+ Posted March 1, 2023 Subscriber Share Posted March 1, 2023 The US is so big but I go by car when I can so that everything is on my schedule. We drove to Yellowstone a couple years ago and it was 24 hours+ in the car, but I'd probably never drive that long again.
Subscriber CaaC (John)+ Posted March 2, 2023 Author Subscriber Share Posted March 2, 2023 Remembering my army days and flying in a plane with our troop for a tour of Northern Ireland we were seated backward or in other words our seats faced the opposite ways to the cockpit, strange when looking out the plane window.
