Harry Maguire - West Ham Transfer Off

Maguire is 100% able to play for a midtable club, he’ll strengthen West Ham’s defence and will be open to less scrutiny on the pitch playing in a back three for a team thats plays very directly with a fairly consistent low block.

Or be more exposed as the players around him can't carry him..

I think he'll do fine at West Ham. He'll be in a more similar setup to the England team where he doesn't look bad. He's just not suited for playing in a high line, imo. He's not a well rounded footballer but in the right system doesn't look as shit as he's been for United.

England still have good players around to bail him out,  he has Stones, Walker, James, sometimes Trippier or Trent,  Rice, Bellingham ahead of him who can all help him.  At West Ham he has jack squat.

So do United? Big difference in the way England are set up compared to how United are set up. You won't see Moyes line up him up in a high line, just like you don't see that from Southgate's England. The system matters just as much, if not more, than the individual quality of players. Good players fail at some clubs because they just don't fit the system at all - Scamacca failed at West Ham not because he's shite but because West Ham don't play the sort of football he thrived in at Sassuolo and he couldn't really adapt. Some players are really well rounded and can adapt to various systems, some players aren't.

He didn't just turn shit once leaving Leicester and it's not his fault that Solksjaer has the tactical mind of a 6 year old thinking "oh well he's good for England, so he should be good for United" without any regard for any sort of system when he signed him for that fee. He's not suddenly great for England and then dogshit at United just because of some sort of curse put on him. He had Ole at the wheel not knowing what the hell he was doing, then he had Ralf Ragnick's spectacular failure, and then Ten Hag who rightly identified that Maguire is dogshit in the sort of defensive line he wants United playing in.

He's a good player in the right system and a very bad player in the wrong system.

looks like the deal is close to collapsing as Maguire wants man United to pay what he would have gotten over his contract in loss of earnings.

he has man United by the bollocks and he has fuck all interest in football.  He will sponge a living on the bench at Man United unless they terminate the contract in which he will get paid out the entire contract remaining anyways.   He looks like he is not all there upstairs but he is playing a blinder here, like Sachin Tendulkar on a flat Mumbai road.

Fair enough really. If West Ham won't match his wage why should he give away money just to go there.

Two way street. If he was the dogs bollocks and Man City wanted to buy him and double his wage then Man Utd could say no and there's nothing he can do.

I have seen a online melt down with fans calling him greedy and selfish.

I like to call it "honouring the contract.  He has every right to stay until the contract ends.

I think Ten Hag is partly to blame by treating him rather poorly and Maguire is reciprocating.   The only way they can shed him is if a team he genuinely wants to play for comes in and offers a good salary which is similar or better.  since that is unlikely it looks like he is staying.   option 2 is unilateral termination but then Maguire has legal recourse to force specific performance or cancellation with damages which can be more than man United contractually owe him

So he has every right to stay until the contract ends, but the first post of yours appears to be at odds with his prerogative to do just that.

the reason he is staying is likely a personal matter between himself and the club.  If he was interested in football he would have gone.   He wants to make himself a nuisance than Man United will struggle to get rid of particularly while Ten Hag is there.

it's petty but legally he has every right to reject a move

All speculative.

I think this deal gets done,  if not West Ham than Villa to replace Mings.  The deal has only stalled, Maguire wants compensation for the wages he will lose, supposedly £80 to 90,000 a week.  You can't really blame him, he doesn't really want to leave, he would much rather play first string for United.  I suspect United will slip him some money, but not the £7m figure being brandied about.

For him it's a business decision - he's signed a contract, he's within his rights to want what he committed to even if United want rid. They've got short careers, they're going to want to get everything they can out of these big contracts. They're trying to force him out but he wants to get a similar wage to what he has with United. If United really want rid, they'll have to pay him.

Villa just got spanked playing a high line, Harry high line Maguire is not conducive to a Emery setup
