Chelsea have reportedly seen a surprise £35m ($44m) bid rejected for Manchester City forward Cole Palmer ahead of Friday's transfer deadline.

Chelsea eyeing Palmer

Have already bought in 10 new players

Bid rejected

WHAT HAPPENED? According to Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian, Chelsea have seen a £35m bid for Palmer rejected by City as Mauricio Pochettino looks to finalise his squad before the summer window slams shut. The club have already signed 10 players this summer, including Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson for their forward line, but manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to add another attacker.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Palmer is still only 21, and while he has made 41 senior appearances for treble winners City to date, just 13 of them have been starts. He has also only managed to score six goals and is currently behind Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez in the squad pecking order, but it appears that the club are reticent to do business. There has already been plenty of outgoings at the Etihad Stadium this summer, with the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Mateo Kovacic, and Aymeric Laporte all leaving.

How this all turns out for Chelsea will be interesting to see. They can say it's amortisation so they won't get in trouble now but putting £150m-£200m in the spent column for the next 3 or 4 seasons already is wild.

Probably the worse club Palmer could of gone to for his development, very toxic club right now and he won't get any playing time

Building for the future... and by the future I mean January where we will offload another load of players and bring some more in..

The same as you lot... cheating our way to the top of the pile

Cheating, technically no. Ruining the integrity, absolutely.

Asking a lot out of Poch to develop all these young players. At least Madueke was promising last night.

He's doomed for failure as far as that's concerned. Everyone can't play. There will be more than a few that get lost in the shuffle.

Disagree there. With the new stoppage time rules, new champions league format, and more international games all congested together, think the only way around these schedules now is to have a huge squad.

I'm more concerned that the likes of Palmer, Mudryk, and Madueke hardly have any senior goals/starts to begin with and we are asking Poch to develop these lot to the standard that Sterling is now setting, with club targets to meet. It's asking a lot but out of everyone that was available he is the best choice.
